for those of you who have had skin rashes as a side effect could you elaborate? I have been taking Rapa. many months now and suddenly got a red small bumpy prickly heat type rash all over my chest
Just curious how much you take and how often?
I take 6mg weekly and went from having one small rash for several months to recently having many spots. I don’t feel them but it looks like I have mosquito bites.
Skin rashes are pretty common (reported by about 15% of users in our poll on side effects): Side Effects of Rapamycin (part 2)
If you’ve been dosing the same level for months and doing fine without a rash, then its a little unclear what triggered the issue. Perhaps you were eating something close to the dosing of rapamycin that increased the effective dosage (e.g. citrus drinks or fruits, or a fatty meal): Improve Bioavailability of Rapamycin (2)
You may get some ideas from the past discussions we’ve had on rashes / acne seemingly caused by rapamycin:
Just here to share something simple that has dramatically helped my rash incase it helps anyone else.
Hypochlorous Acid
It’s most commonly mixed with sodium chloride and water. I’m not sure what those two ingredients add, but Skin Smart offers a plain HA spray and one specifically for eczema which contains the other two ingredients. It’s a light watery mist that dries quickly. Just feels like any garden variety facial mist.
I’ve been doing other supportive things too, but I’m convinced the mist is what put healing over the top.
Apparently people use it for acne as well.
This?
Yes!
Fyi, other brands also sell hypochlorus acid, so there might be less expensive out there. This brand is used by Caroline Hirons (skincare guru) so I assume that means at least their quality is reliable
On their website, they have one for face that contains 100% HA ,and one for eczema that contains HA and water and salt. I emailed the company to understand the difference between the two products and they said:
Note: they didn’t make a ton of sense to me because the one for face is also 8 ounces, so….
Also, it feels like a fine mist of water and immediately dries to nothing, so there is nothing unpleasant about trying it.
Hello, thank you for your inquiry. All of the SkinSmart products contain the same ingredients. Hypochlorous Acid is the KEY ingredient for all of them, but they all contain ionized water and salt. The salt is a trace ingredient, so it isn’t always listed --but the bottles all contain the exact same full list.
Hypochlorous Acid must be accompanied by ionized water in all cases.
The only differences are the sizes and sprayers. For all-over body ailments, you may want to stick with the 8 oz Eczema Therapy Spray, because it offers the best mist for a lot of coverage, and the 8 ounces will go a long way.
We apologize for a the confusion, please let us know if you decide to try it–most users LOVE it for eczema, and more than 60% come back for a second bottle. If it doesn’t work for you, it is 100% returnable / Refundable.
