Tried a search for this but came up empty. Does anyone else feel worn out after dosing? Two days after I dose (5mg with 12 oz GFJ and a can of sardines in oil for a chaser), I feel pretty worn out/tired for days 2 and 3 and don’t want to hit the gym but i go anyway and take it easy…Then I start to feel more myself as each day goes by until about day 5/6 when i feel back to normal. I’m 66M and I work out everyday (usually). I vary my routine each day: rowing machine, elliptical, skip rope, StairMaster and stationary bike and swim laps when there’s no thunder of lightning in the area. (they kick us out of the pool). and try to get on some of the nautalis weight machines every 3rd day or so.
Some people do experience this… see these past discussions:
Thx. I don’t know why my search did find any of those. (didn’t find anything! maybe it was the way I wrote it?) Side note: My dosing is every 2 wks.
I can’t tell if you’re new to rapa or not. That seems like a high dose to me, being 5mg with GFJ boost for an effective possible dose of 15mg. That might be too much for you. (It would be for many of us.)
In any case, if you’re just starting on rapa, also keep in mind that effects can change significantly over time.
It’s also possible that what you’re experiencing is reactivated EBV, which is my limiting factor.
Yes, it’s a know issue. I had to dial back my dosing down to 3 mg a week NO GFJ.
There are so many factors that affect the m-tor pathway - other supplements like turmeric, level of exercise, your diet, genetics, TRF/IF, unknown etc.
Personally my life style turns down m-tor pathway already so I imagine I don’t need much in terms of further suppression.
I have been dosing for about 11 months or so. Started out 1mg/wk and built up 1mg/wk until at 6/wk. I then was on 6/wk for about 6 months then went to 5mg with GFJ every 2 wks (I dose on the 1st and 15th of each month). I have been on the current dosing for about 4 months. the fatigue started roughly about 1 month ago. The only thing i got on the 6mg/wk was pimples/boils on my neck around the hairline. I still get them on the current dose but I always had issues with them growing up and in adulthood so I don’t think it’s the rapa per say. maybe it aggravates it a little more is all.
I dose at night after a good workout… sleep through it. I awaken feeling a bit off and slow for the next day til after lunch… by 1 pm better.
Also, I do not workout the day after my dose. So break. I only workout every other day.
After the initial dose day… back to normal 100%.
Afterall, the rapamycin molecule just told every cell in your body (38 trillion in all)… that you are starving. You should expect a bit of a reaction… lol.
Yes, even at 6mg (which I tried for about a year). I plan on starting again at some point at 3mg. I do a lot of endurance exercise and feel like it is a net negative on my recovery and performance… Seems like the biggest issue is day 2 and 3.
Same with me- day 2&3. but my dose is probably around the equiv. of 15mg due to 12oz GFJ and I dose every 15 days. are you dosing 6mg once a week?
Yes, 6mg once a week. I tried 9mg for a little while and the effect was even more pronounced so I dropped to 6 (same thing day 2 and 3 at 9mg I was pretty tired).
I suppose if it continues or gets worse i could ask my Doc to order a EBV antibody test to see if i have or had the virus. Although my limited research on it shows that there’s no cure/treatment other than managing symptoms.
Since over 90% of the world’s human population has Epstein Bar Virus (latent or lytic), the test may not tell you much more than yes, you’re among that percentage.
A discussion of how to handle reactivating EBV is non-trivial, and I won’t attempt a material summary. Suffice to say that if that’s what you’re dealing with, you’ll want targeted therapies, and while there aren’t any that work for everyone all the time, there are some that work, and many of them are far better than nothing. Especially in conjunction with possible partial immune suppression of rapamycin.
You’re right that we don’t yet have a cure – EBV is a nasty little virus that hides well in latent state. (I’d really to see medical research get on that. I don’t know why it’s taking so long. Given how much it’s affected my life, I’d like to know who to talk to about that.)
