Video Interview - Nitric Oxide and Functional Health - with Dr. Nathan Bryan

NO production and benefits of sildenafil and tadalafil.

By stopping cGMP breakdown, both sildenafil and tadalafil improve NO-mediated dilatation in the corpus cavernosum of the penis. This helps get and keep an erection.

  • Tadafil’s half-life is longer.
  • This makes the therapeutic time longer.
  • They get heart cells to produce NO, which protects the heart muscle.
  • Vascular smooth muscle cells produce more NO when low doses are used. Higher amounts can still increase NO release even though NO synthase is being blocked.
  • They make some cells make more NO inside the cells. This can make the blood flow better in the uterus and make the endometrium thicker.
  • In animal tests, they raise the expression of neuronal NO synthase (nNOS) in skeletal muscle. nNOS speeds up the production of NO.

Researchers analyzed the health records of more than 70,000 men with erectile dysfunction and found that those who were prescribed Viagra (sildenafil), Cialis (tadalafil), Levitra (vardenafil), or similar drugs called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE-5) inhibitors also had: 39 percent lower death rate due to heart disease.

Video is only 20:06 long. Presentation actually ends at 19:49.

I checked minute 2:00. Not there either.

Could you post the link to the study please?

Oops, I copied the wrong number

I don’t know what references you want. If it’s the overall mortality reduction

“39 percent lower death rate due to heart disease.” Look at the overall mortality table.

The OUP academic is it. Thank you.

Citrulline Malate also increases Nitric Oxide production and decreases BP along the same lines as Cialis

DO NOT TAKE CITRULLINE AND OTHER VASODILATORS (CIALIS OR VIAGRA) TOGETHER AS THEY MAY LOWER BLOOD PRESSURE TOO MUCH (I.E. MAY BE FATAL)!!!

Combining vasodilators can be dangerous. For example, a phosphodiesterase inhibitor for erectile dysfunction should never be taken in combination with a nitrate due to the risk of severe drop in blood pressure.8

Citrulline malate increases nitric oxide production, which increases blood flow to active muscles . In turn, citrulline malate is thought to increase nutrient delivery and clear waste products that are related to muscle fatigue, such as lactate and ammonia ( 13 ).

I think the issue is a mixture of needing greater mitochondrial efficiency and also more effective transcription of mRNA. This is what I talk about on this forum. (and elsewhere). Hence you need to intervene to make mitochondria more efficient and additionally improve transcription. One tool is … Rapamycin which assists with creating greater mitochondrial efficiency (which helps with transcription and translation).

I am not a fan of the hypothesis that Class III HDACs (Sirtuins) are something that needs positive intervention.

I can confirm this, 3g of Citrulline Malate in my morning smoothie reduces my BP by 5 points, the effect lasts all day, my nighttime BP is lower too.
Together with low(er) sodium I am experimenting I am not comfortable any more with my BP, sometimes it is as low as 90/50.
Do you know if Citrulline Malate looses its “power” over time?

Citrulline has a half life of 2-3 hours. So it’s effects should pass fairly quickly.

Citrulline malate has been shown to peak around 1 hour after ingestion and quickly declines 15-30 minutes later, regardless of the amount.

In your case it sounds like some other factors may be in play. My SBP is typically 120-130, so a reduction is welcome.

Well might be, but my BP measuring tells me differently in my N=1. It is true that I unfortunately lowered my sodium and started with Citrulline Malate on the same day, but could reduction in sodium decrease BP so fast? And I really did not go for a drastic sodium reduction. I went from 4500mg to about 2500mg. Maybe I should skip Citrulline for few days to see what is driving my drop in BP.

I would say both are impacting your BP. Try stopping one intervention and then measure to see how each intervention affects you.

FWIW

At $18.00 for 2.5mg daily tadalafil dose for 90 days(cost is .20¢ per day)

Take tadalafil {both genders] live longer.

A no brainer.

Has anyone dug into the presenter’s recommendation to ditch toothpaste with fluoride? My understanding was that the amount in the toothpaste is so low that it would not interfere with NO production, especially given that that the rinsing afterward. On the other hand we are also getting fluoride through tap water, so I don’t know if extra fluoride in the toothpaste is helping. What do you all think?

I went with an oral biome friendly toothpaste that didn’t have fluoride. I don’t miss it. Yet.

There is no evidence that fluoride toothpaste significantly impacts nitric oxide (NO) levels in the body.

FWIW:
I have lived in cities that employed fluoride in their water from the inception.
I also used fluoride toothpaste for most of my life on the advice of the ADA.
At ~83 I still have almost all of my original teeth and my brain is not rotting that I know of.

I have been doing this:

  • Water the garden in the morning to get Infra red

  • Chew raw parsley and basil from the garden (until it is like water) on an empty stomach.

I can tase the nitrites in my saliva for the next hour and a half as Dr. Nathan Bryan talks about.

I know what it tastes like because I sometimes put a little potassium nitrate under my tongue.

  • I continue chewing parsley etc every couple of hours through the day while I’m fasting.

  • Spray water mixed with potassium and sodium nitrate on my skin before I go for my sunbath at lunch time

  • I have also been doing lymphatic drainage massage on my face, courtesy of Dr. Alekseev on Youtube.

My husband has been doing all the things above too and doesn’t take Rapa or all the things I do so he is kind of my control. lol

  • He has also been drinking dandelion leaf tea and we both have been taking quercitin, rutin and bromelains three times a day on an empty stomach to assist in lymph drainage.

The results have been good. He is certainly looking younger and says I am too. Life is good. New projects and plans that are more in line with people in their 20’s LOL. So many positive things on the horizon and barriers we have broken through it is quite remarkable. None of this is stressing us however as it would have in the past. I actually feel more relaxed than ever.

Getting rid of the face puffiness does really help a person look younger as Dr. Alekseev claims. I will post pictures when I get time if anyone is interested.

I also do Dr. Alekseev’s exercises for walking and posture but that’s another very encouraging story.

I heard once that your real age is relative to how supple your spine is
