Question about fasting protocols

Please don’t use the forum to promote your book.

I just ordered it. If you have a forum about rapamycin and a book about rapamycin, talking about the latter seems highly relevant.

This is great, many people report same. What markers in your labs moved the most?

Are you doing these 5 day fasts on a regular schedule, and if so, for how long doing?

Do you do any exercise during these fasts?

Indeed fasting is a quasi endogenous mTOR1/IGF-1 depressing memetic.

It’s the 5th time on this thread alone! I hope he is paying commission to Brian. This is a forum for discussion not for promoting your own commercial interests.

And if you really want to find out about mTOR & Rapamycin then listen to the David Sabatini and Matt Kaeberlein podcasts.

Did you have a DEXA scan pre and post? What proportion of weight lost was lean tissue?

I was terribly insulin resistant so I did one every 4-6 weeks. I did exercise during them. My fasting glucose in 2021 was 120 (A1c 5.6). I wish I had known to get a fasting insulin reading back then. This year it was 79 and insulin was 2.4. So I’m not sure what schedule I will do going forward. Maybe quarterly? Or maybe it is redundant with rapamycin!

No, no scans. I really wasn’t trying to lose weight. But before these fasts my body would always be burning carbohydrates even with a low carbohydrate diet (per that lumen device). After the second long fast things shifted. Now I am burning fat or carbohydrates depending on what I eat. Once that happened I started losing a lot of weight.

I have heard them all I think. Both great sources

With mTOR, autophagy (and rapamycin) we are at the beginning of an important new understanding of cellular metabolism and the aging process. At this time, we don’t have adequate studies to determine optimal doses and frequency of dosing. And, I imagine eventually, we will find substantial variations between individuals…ie. Dr. Roger William’s concept of biochemical individuality.

How many cycles did you do and what was starting weight and current? Net weight loss? Assuming all other variables held constant.

I have no issues with him mentioning his book. I have a copy, its a great intro to rapamycin and its the only book of its type. While i don’t want the forums overrun with commercial posts, i think its great that people are creating products that help spread the word about rapamycin. Its early days in this new market and i much prefer to see people spending money on much more scientifically validated approaches like Rap. Vs. Resveratrol etc… I think you probably agree.

It’s just the constant plugging that I find nauseating

Fair enough.i will ask him to moderate the book posts.

At times last year above 170. But my BMI never got above 24. Right now it is 135 or so.

Hello Maveric78,

I have noted your complaint and I will not mention it again.

Regards, Ross

I ordered your book and it is a good read. I am trying to get my father to try Rapamycin, and your book really helped move the needle for him. He doesn’t use the internet beyond email and relies on books. Thank you for this resource!

Please mention your book from time to time as I think it is a useful resource. Let’s find a happy medium. I doubt I could convince my dad to take Rapamycin without your book.

Maybe we need a special topic for promoting resources like this which people are free to read or ignore at their own leisure?

Is rapamycin better with fasting? Actually after taking rapamycin, I don’t really feel any hunger. So far I’m on day 4. I mean I want to eat but my tummy is not signalling the hunger so I just drink water. I also see that my urine is far more yellow than I like. Usually a sign of dehydration. However I drink water throughout the day… At least 3L because of my swim and sauna. My body don’t feel the strongest but I’m not getting light headed. Anyway going for my blood test to see any changes.
