Dihydropyridine calcium-channel-blockers may worsen kidney disease

Are you taking a common calcium channel blocker, such as amlodipin? You might be interested in this. This is not a slam dunk, but a cautionary note. This needs to be further established and validated, so no need to panic just yet. However, it may be of interest to those who already suffer from CKD, diabetes and uncontrolled high BP.

FWIW, RASi did fine.

Could a common blood pressure drug worsen kidney disease in type 2 diabetes?

Common dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers:

I saw this report (unpublished paper BTW), but nothing about a proposed or hypothesized mechanism.

So it’s safe to take it if there’s no diabetes - do I get it right or they did not include diabetes free group? I’m taking it 2.5 mg daily.

It’s hard to say based on this article, because we don’t have access to the paper. However I have never seen this effect reported clinically, so my assumption - unless shown otherwise - is that it’s safe in nondiabetics. It’s hard to even speculate in the absence of them showing what would even be the mechanism of such deterioration with these drugs. My suspicion is that for nondiabetics this will turn out to not be a consideration.
