@LukeMV is there anything under the sun that you haven’t tried LOL. I’m actually wondering why are/were you taking modafinil and what you got from it? Thanks,
LOL I didn’t realize I come across that way but it’s probably true. I had some different phases but one thing I can say I never tried is methylene blue which was trendy last year. I am much more cautious these days than in the past.
That being said, Modafinil has a CLEAR cognitive impact. I can’t really say that about any legal nootropics. If I know I have a long day ahead of me and had a rough night the night before, 200mg will wake me the heck up and ready to conquer the world. It is a poor man’s adderall (which I haven’t taken since college but remember the euphoria from it). Biggest problem with Modafinil is that insomnia is an issue, even if I take it first thing upon waking. I also notice a slight increase in systolic BP and heart rate.
100mg still works and reduces these issues but it works a little less than 200mg. have come to accept it as a “whenever necessary” thing instead of a daily thing. It seems the effects kind of diminish the longer I take it consecutively.
Damn, almost everything I am tempted to try it negatively effects sleep which is the weakest link for me in my longevity and healthy aging journey. I consider myself lucky when I get a 6-hour sleep night. While I’d like to try modafinil sometime in future for now I’ll have to put it on hold (till I find a fix for my insomnia issue)
I had no idea it was an appetite suppressant, I take GLP 1 for sugar control, that curbs my appetite but I’m only 120 lb so o don’t need less food
I read on here about Modafini, it was the energy and focus, plus the good mood it gives that attracted me and it really works. I took one this morning at 5 am and by 6 am I had already don 3,000 steps doing chores. I felt happy and alive, that’s why I take it but I only take it twice a week so that I don’t become immune to that great feeling. I introduced it to my Husband , he likes it too, he took half this morning to see if it improves his golf. Hope that helps
I don’t know if there is literature for it’s appetite suppressant effects but there is no doubt a decrease in my hunger on days I take it that can’t be denied.
Has anyone tried armodafinil?
I am loving modafinil. It is perhaps the only drug/supplement that I would say is life-changing for me. In addition to its wakefulness properties, I find it to be a definite mood elevator. I find its cognitive effects are similar to caffeine but last longer. It has greatly improved my motivation and energy to get things done. I have been taking modafinil for several months, so that probably eliminates any placebo effect. Subjectively and objectively, I feel that I have aged backwards in the area of energy and motivation. I have easily completed some yearly gardening and maintenance tasks that previously I didn’t have the energy or motivation for. Tasks that I previously had my grandsons over to help me complete. The energy boost that I get from modafinil was unexpected and did not occur as fast as the mental alertness properties of modafinil.
The only drawback to modafinil is the wakefulness and energy effects only last about 6-7 hours.
I take it first thing in the morning, but I can’t take it any later, or it affects my sleep. That is why I am looking into armodafinil, very similar but its effects last longer.
"Wakefulness and Daytime Alertness
The wake-promoting effects of armodafinil persist later in the day compared with modafinil."
What Is Armodafinil?
Chemically, armodafinil is the enantiopure (R)-(–)-enantiomer of the racemic mixture modafinil. Both enantiomers of modafinil are active as dopamine reuptake inhibitors and wakefulness-promoting agents, but armodafinil is more potent and longer-acting. ACS Publications Armodafinil belongs to a class of drugs known as eugeroics — stimulants that provide long-lasting mental arousal. It was approved by the U.S. FDA in June 2007. Wikipedia
Mechanism of Action
Armodafinil maintains higher plasma concentrations later in the day in healthy subjects compared with modafinil. Despite similar half-lives, plasma concentrations following armodafinil administration are higher late in the day than those following modafinil administration on a milligram-to-milligram basis.
The precise mechanism by which armodafinil promotes wakefulness is unknown, but it likely involves the selective potentiation of CNS catecholaminergic signaling, including potentiation of glutaminergic synapses on hypocretin/orexin neurons in the lateral hypothalamus, together with effects on GABA and monoaminergic systems. In addition, although armodafinil is not a direct or indirect dopamine receptor agonist, it has been shown to bind to the dopamine transporter and inhibit dopamine reuptake.

Clinical pharmacology studies show armodafinil maintains higher blood levels later in the day, producing a longer wakefulness effect.

Yes. It’s impressive. Armodafinil and modafinil felt quite similar. Glad you hear you are having great results.
I am not sure on what other products you have tried. But I did see you mention about wanting to try adderall in another thread.
If you have the $, you could find a doctor in your country to diagnose you and prescribe various ADHD medications.
Because those meds are not usually found in on-line pharmacies.
However, many on-line pharmacies do carry modafinil, armodafinil. As well as wellbutrin (buproprion) which is a good medication to try also to compare it with if you’ve not tried that one.
But from what you wrote above: wakefulness, mood elevator, cognitive effects, motivation, energy, alertness etc.
Those ADHD meds would help in those area’s.
To me they are stronger than modafinil or aromodafinil for certain stuff. However, moda/armod are also nice in that they don’t cause as much vasoconstriction from the various catecholamine release.
Interaction issue are not too bad using a low dose ADHD med with modafinil - at least from what Google says.
Wikipedia has some great pages for all the medications for ADHD and wakefullness promoting agents etc. I’d say try them all over a period of time to see what works best for you. Plus what you can stack safely together for the best results.
Thanks
I really am quite happy with the modafinil. I don’t think I really need anything that is stronger, only something that lasts longer. I will be ordering some armodafinil.
Has anyone had experience with Adderall and Phentermine to compare with Modafinil? I have taken Phentermine and Adderall (not at the same time) and both destroyed my sleep no matter how early l took it. I would like to try modafinil but not if l can’t sleep on it.
Have you considered coffee?
Neurocognitive and Neurological Effects of Coffee and Caffeine: A Narrative Review
" Regular coffee drinkers have lower rates of several neurodegenerative conditions, including Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease [1,2], dementia [3], stroke [1], and multiple sclerosis [2,3]."
“While most studies exploring the effect of coffee on the brain, neurogenesis, neuroplasticity, and synaptic plasticity have been conducted in animal models, several important clinical trials in humans suggest the role of coffee in human brain activity, as summarized in Table 1.”
Joking aside, I get all the effects you enumerated including mood elevation, clearing brain fog, increased focus, energy and wakefulness with coffee. The limitation is relatively short duration and habituation which can lead to dose escalation, but I’ve been lucky enough that in almost 50 years of almost daily coffee drinking I have not developed a bad need to escalate the dose. My morning small high quality coffee mocha still has stellar effects, as does my afternoon 4 cup drip. No impact on sleep that I can tell even if I occasionally have a very late after dinner cup with friends. According to my genetic data I’m a fast coffee metabolizer.
I figure if coffee does what I need my incentive to try something like modafinil is lower. I realize that everyone reacts to coffee slightly differently, but that’s probably true of modafinil as well. YMMV.

Have you considered coffee?
Yeah, but after the first gallon it loses it’s effect and makes me sleepy. ![]()
Combining both has been great for me
Modafinil trivia. Those with COMT Val158Met Genetic Polymorphism feel little or no effect from Modafinil.
I have it and it does nothing for me
DesertShores, I have had a supply of armodafinil for a year or so now and every time I try it I don’t notice any type of improvement. I use WakLert 50 by Sun Pharma. I’ve tried 50 mg at times and 100 mg at times without noticing anything although the research I read implies that it is the better of the two isomers found combined in Modafinil. In fact, it may leave me a little down after a few hours. I’ve probably given it 5 to 10 one-day trials so far.
If I want results I always use Modafinil and sometimes it does not seem to work, either.
Based on my research, Sun Pharma is a fairly reliable company in the Indian pharma sector.
I have noticed from this thread that some people seem to be non-responders, while others are quite sensitive to modafinil. I don’t know how old you are, but it might be a better performer for older people using it off-label. Having tried it for some time now, I can’t imagine wanting to quit.
In addition to energy and motivation, modafinil gives me a mental boost, almost euphoric.
I think I first heard about its off-label use from Aubrey de Grey. He is a big fan of modafinil, as are several other YouTube talking heads, such as Joe Rogan.
I was hoping to get the same experience from armodafinil, only for a little longer period.
I hope other members of the forum who have tried armodafinil will share their experiences.
I have actually ordered any yet, because I have other interventions in the pipeline, including ordering some more rapamycin.
I’m just a few years younger than you and I agree that modafinil may be more beneficial for older people than the young, excluding those using it for prescribed reasons. I agree with what Modafinil & Your Brain | Cognitive Vitality | Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation says, and I think doctors should consider it as being potentially beneficial for their older patients. It bumps my dopamine up enough to improve mood and motivation for a good 6 hours or so at a dose of 50 mg to 100 mg. I try to make 50 mg work, but if it doesn’t kick in within two hours I’ll likely add another 50 mg. It makes me feel like I’m in my 30s again for that time slot. I avoid a full dose because it means a very sleepless night and I take periodic breaks every week or two.
I am taking 200 mg and that works for me twice a week. If you buy from Jagdish in India, you get 2 options, mood:and Alert, , I take the Modifinil mood, has anyone tried the Alert?
Try 200 mg, it’s amazing. In between Modifinil we drink LUCID. Coffee, it has mushrooms in it and it not only tastes great it improves energy and mood.
