Attia and Epstein

No mention of oral health by the way. No mention nitric oxide pathways, no mention of anything interesting. And nothing relevant for women — beyond some mealy mouthed mentions of arbitrary strength metrics he pulled out of his ass as to how much a woman is supposed to lift or carry or how long she’s supposed to stand on one toe. No mention of HRT — the single biggest lever for female longevity and health span maximization, that would stave off all his bullshit horsemen. But no wonder, since he views us as more carb free snacks in between his venison sticks.

Honestly I only watched the Masterpiece series to see if it was worth watching with my husband so that he — who’s not into this stuff at all — could glean something useful. But Attia carried himself like such a douche that I knew my husband would just be sarcastic and ask me why t f I’m making him sit through such shit. So I didn’t even bother.

I beg to differ. I am old enough and have seen enough to know that there is no such thing as trusting anyone. That is not to say that all people will behave in the same way, and no one is trustworthy, but you’d do yourself a big favor if you always start a new situation at place where the trust is ZERO, and to build from there. At worst this way you won’t feel betrayed/disappointed and at best you might save yourself being a victim of some form of scam or being taken advantage of in some way.

As for Atia, I stopped listening to him a long time ago (at least three years ago or more) as to me he offered nothing new. He simply regurgitated what is common knowledge, lower your lipids, eat your veggies, exercise etc. He also has a tendency of jumping on most popular trends of the moment which are usually debunked in due time. Not a good trait for a longevity professional IMO. Mat K. on the other hand is always cautious in supporting the next “new fad” without getting some reputable studies to support the said claims.

Exactly… their personalities are night and day.
Matt actually replies to my PM’s on here. Doubt Attia would ever slum with the common folk.

In podcasts, Peter is always name dropping first name basis… then his guests need to back track and fill in blanks.

My favorite where Attia looks ridiculous is in the Drive… Sabatini and Kaeberlein on topic of Rapamycin. Multiple times Attia tries to impress and is corrected. Just Kaeberlein and Sabatini would have been fantastic.

Sadly … Sabatini is no stranger to alleged sexual misconduct… and Attia and him went to Rapa Nui together recently… post Sabatini’s allegations. Again, living the high life. And, his patients are the rich and famous.

FYI - I can’t unsee… “Pussy is, indeed, low carb. Still awaiting results on gluten content, though.” that’s going to be a quote he will be remembered for… not more meat protein in diet as you get older.

The correspondence makes it clear that Attia maintained a relationship with Epstein long after the financier faced sex trafficking and prostitution charges… Hard to explain away – Epstein files released by the US Justice Department on Friday, Peter Attia’s name has appeared over 1,700 times. Uff!

You can tell a lot by how someone carries himself. Matt K. is a researcher, a biology nerd, who’s got into popularizing his speciality branch of science. He’s strait laced and I like that. Peter A. is someone who went to med school a long time ago but no residency and whose primary interest was making money (consulting) — he carries himself with a high need for validation, for impressing whoever he’s addressing. I gather he was sexually molested as a kid so that must have done a number on him. You’d think he’d be more empathetic to other minors suffering the same, but no. And whatever he’s running is not a true medical practice. The billions of tests are bullshit to make the “patient” overwhelmed or feel as though s/he is getting the best of the best. Just because all those data points are being collected doesn’t follow that the diagnosis or prescription is the right one. No way he gives patients the careful look into all that data. I doubt anyone could interpret it thoroughly other than the patient himself guided by a LLM. He’s a self promoting bro.

@Agetron I know Sabatini was me-too’d, but I don’t know any of the details.

I usually hold off judgment on that topic until I know the details because some people were merely jerky/creepy and were caught up in the Weinstein level of offenses. For example, to me, Aziz Ansari, while not cool, was no worse than many guys I’ve dated.

Attia is very smart and I got a lot out of him, but he does reek of pompous AH. It’s his brand.

And I am forever grateful to that Kaeberlein/Sabatini podcast because it’s the only reason I’m here. And I agree Kaerberlein reeks of character. You can tell him I said so. You can also tell him those bagels he likes are disgusting and they should be ashamed of themselves for trying to call it a bagel  !

I will say Attia’s post of Kevin Spacey in his house has not aged well. I also wonder how many of his high profile patients, like Hugh Jackman, are staying.

@medaura I know a couple of people who know some of his patients and I’ve only heard ‘rip off’. Excellent point on him being molested.

And I know a former Epstein “girlfriend”. She doesn’t know I know. Broken person, being used like that really fucks people up.

The thing about him — Attia — is, he’s smooth on the surface and eloquent. He’s not half as smart as he’s invested everything he’s ever said into having you believe he is. Judgment wise, moron. Synthesis wise, he hasn’t come up with anything remarkable in his chosen field. He just sounds smart in the moment while talking to a guest. It’s all surface, no depth.

A good read:

David Sabatini, a biologist who once generated Nobel Prize buzz, is hoping for a comeback after he was abruptly ousted amid allegations of sexual harassment. The case remains one of the most polarizing of its kind in science, and raises hard questions: Is there room for lesser penalties in such complex cases? Did Sabatini deserve a second chance?

@medaura Wow on knowing her. I can only imagine.

I was hit on by a lot of older men (I’m obviously not unique) and while I fortunately never fell for anything, I can remember it all so clearly and feel disgusted any time I think about it… and nothing technically even happened to me!! I shudder to think what would have happened to my brain if I had been an actual victim… just being an attempted victim stays with you.

Exactly… Sabatini was me-too’d, but I don’t know any of the details.

I too don’t know the details… but even when he was finally back on track and hired… it was sabotage and again… this obviously brilliant researcher and medical physician had to leave the country to be employed. Damn.

Biologist David Sabatini was not hired by NYU Grossman School of Medicine in 2022 following intense backlash over sexual harassment allegations that previously led to his firing from the Whitehead Institute and HHMI. He subsequently moved to the Czech Academy of Sciences in 2023.

  • NYU Rejection: In May 2022, after potential hiring, NYU decided against bringing him on, prompting a protest by students and faculty.
  • Previous Incidents: Sabatini was fired by HHMI and resigned from the Whitehead Institute in 2021 for violating sexual harassment policies, including a, “clandestine sexual relationship” with a woman he was mentoring.
  • Current Position: As of late 2023, he began working as a senior scientist at the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry (IOCB) Prague, supported by private funding.

He is currently active in the scientific community, running a lab with locations in both Prague and the Boston area.

My point was more… knowing this, and you go one on one hiking … and traveling to an expensive remote island with a guy. Attia didn’t think twice.

And reading that well written article is why I give Sabatini the benefit of doubt. It’s complicated and grey.

Kaeberlein and Sabatini have been marked safe from from Epstein shrapnel (a search for their names returns no relevant hits).

Because of his relationship to Attia, I just searched Hugh Jackman.

Sorry, if Dirk doesn’t care about the POTUS involvement with Epstein, he’s not a “very normal guy.” He’s a piece of crap person.

Having vented hard on Peter, I have to add - nobody is all goodness (excluding Matt Kaeberlein - hero worship here) or a completely evil person. We all have made bad choices and hopefully some great ones too.

5 years ago-ish it was Dr. Attia podcast the Drive with Kaeberlein that fiirst explained Aging and Health… then the one on Rapamycin that gave me what I had been seeking for several years – that just perhaps - I could change, influence and even to some degree circumvent the aging process to get more healthy years. Then, the Attia, Kaeberlein and Sabatini podcast – a deep dive on how Rapamycin works - sealed the deal. I can not negate the importance of this information - and help it gave me.

All quantative informaton derived from my recent blood tests, strength and overall great health – indicate that the information was solid. Even their role modeling/sharing insight into the use of rapamycin – amount and frequency. Was a road map I needed.

That can not be unappreciated. Like many have stated, I have moved on to more independent and personal research – and seeing fresh alternatives to build on the foundation of rapamycin (yeah no guarantees - but my body feels right) still a lot of guessing - but I am in a better place from that early - much needed informaton. For that, thanks Peter - you had a major impact on my life and health.

Even if we have no respect for them personally, these “gurus” sometimes give good advice or information. These characters are far from unique, I would posit that a majority of men are prone to think with their crotch at times.

Agree that we should not forget or minimize that Attia did bring good information and insight. History is full of horrible people who nonetheless left behind some nuggets of truth or beauty (Richard Wagner, more recently Alice Munro). Attia’s life reads almost like a classic tragedy: a man with certain gifts and certain tragic flaws of pride and ambition who got terribly carried away. You could almost imagine the stage play or movie.

My life got changed reading for the first time about Lp(a) in Outlive. Attia was the one who first shined some light on this. I got tested, and even more important, my son got tested, and it launched a full-on exploration of our genetics and our current markers and even my participating in this forum. Doesn’t mean I don’t think his behavior is abhorrent, but still will give some credit where it’s due.

To your points, I can definitely separate the art from the man.

Michael Jackson’s music and dancing werelegendary, Harvey Weinstein made excellent movies, and I acquired a lot of crucial health information from Attia. (Fwiw, unlike some, I’m not close to saying Attia is guilty of anything other than embracing a pedophile).

@markeatsmeat Looks like David Protein took Peter Attia off their website.

I would agree that reading Attia’s book Outlived helped get me going on the Rapamycin journey and found some of the other info helpful as well. Yes, some stuff like exercise and other items were kind of no brainers to aid in seeking longevity and healthspan. I’m not defending anything about his correspondence with Epstein but attempting to put everything in a bigger perspective. None of us are ‘sinless’ so trying to keep that in mind as well.
