I received a shipment of Adapalene gel (0.3%) a few weeks ago. I’m very impressed with the results in terms of improving the look of my skin. For me its much better than Retin-A, with few of the side effects of redness, peeling, etc. that is common with Retin-A / tretinoin.
I found this video on Youtube of a woman who seems to have had a very similar experience (see below).
From India:
EPIDUO FORTE GEL 30 Grams - 6 tubes - 108$ ($18/ per 30 gram pump tube).
I apply it every night, and sometimes during the day (with sunscreen over it). So, at least daily.
I also purchased a bunch of .1% ($3 per tube), and the .3%. The 0.3% seems to result in changes much faster. I recommend only the 0.3% prescription strength.
I’d definitely avoid getting Epiduo or Epiduo Forte (both include benzoyl peroxide in addition to the adapalene) unless you’re treating acne. You want just the adapalene by itself.
I had a difficult time finding just the 0.3% adapalene from the India resellers we typically go to. If anyone finds a brand, and a reseller that will provide it, please post the information.
Ah - here is one that we can try to order. A number of resellers I contacted did not seem to have access to any 0.3% adapalene and wanted to sell me only the 0.1% gel - but I will try again with this product:
If tretinoin doesn’t bother me is there any reason to use adapalene instead? I use tretinoin with a moisturizer (which goes on first). I use 0.1% everyday on just the spots that need help. After 5-6 days I feel a burn so I quit for a day.
I hear vit c is important to use with retinoic acid.
Tretinoin , also known as all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA )
It’s a pro-oxidant, for one thing, so I can’t imagine it would help with skin aging and theoretically could be counter-productive. It also bleaches clothing and pillow cases and can be quite irritating to the skin.
None that I know of, especially if you’re only applying the tretinoin at night (since unlike adapalene it is NOT photostable). Last I checked, there was one specific published study showing anti-aging effect of adapalene 0.3%, but there’s much more published research with tretinoin. I’m confident they both work well, so it’s likely mainly a matter of tolerability (but adapalene can be applied in the morning, which I prefer personally).
Oh BTW, I forgot to mention that the 0.025% tretinoin works just as well as the 0.1% and is much more tolerable for most people. I’d also recommend applying to the entire face (to stimulate collagen production, etc) rather than spot treatment. You might find, however, that applying the 0.1% to the entire face is quite a bit more irritating than spot treatment.
More sun damage. Bigger pores. Nose, forehead (gets sensitive), oily parts of face. Under chin.
It’s only been a few weeks so I cannot yet say if it works miracles or what. I find that I have to keep my face out of the sun now or I feel a burning sensation.
A few months ago I started putting moisturizer (cerave w/ceramides etc) on my elbows and knuckles where I had rough skin. An amazing recovery.
The only brand I’ve seen available for pure 0.3% adapalene is the one I posted above Klena Forte. All the others I’ve seen are 0.1%. Its hard to find the 0.3% products and buy them.
I’m a bit confused by how you worded this. By “with few of the side effects of redness, peeling that is common with retin-a” Do you mean Adapalene also has these side effects as well, but less often?
Adapalene is (for most people) generally less irritating to the skin compared to Retin-A (although both formulations have different strengths, and the lowest concentration of Retin-A (0.025%) works just as well for skin aging as the higher concentrations).
When buying adapalene, keep in mind that the 0.1% variety is OTC in the USA, so I imagine it would be a lot cheaper from Amazon than paying for shipping charges from India.
As Davin8r suggests, Adapalene just has a much lower side effect profile; much easier on the skin than tretinoin (0.1%) and few if any side effects (though I did get a red neck, I assume from it rubbing on my pillow then down to my neck. Neck skin seems to be more sensitive to it.
And as mentioned, buying 0.1% adapalene from India makes no sense - just buy it locally in the USA. Buy the Adapalene 0.3% from India.
