My goodies have arrived but now I’m getting a bit gun shy. The jar of powder will probably sit in my fridge for a few more days until I screw the courage to crack it open. ChatGPT estimates around 50% oral bioavailability—the calculation is highly speculative though.
Nice. I’ve been thinking about getting some myself.
Update for everyone on the project: The study has been added to the queue of studies. I don’t know exactly when it will start.
Since IPAM increased the size of rotifers in the 2010 study I asked Ora to look at the size of the treated worms vs the control group. I would like to get photos of them as well if possible. This will be an interesting data point.
Any updates on ordering IPAM? Did you guys try it yet? @joseph @medaura @tananth
Still in the fridge. Still unopened. I’ve had some family commitments on my plate so waiting for a quiet day to start.
Took 2mg IPAM per day for last 3 days: the liquid version came in a glycol (glycerine?) base, which is used in cough syrups and is supposed to be mildly sweet, but just the 0.33 cc of this syrup was bitter in taste : presumably IPAM is bitter.
No noticeble effect so far, but I had mild bowel upset last night, so skipping IPAM today, just in case. Most likely my heavy dose of probiotics (close to 1 trillion CFUs, my normal dose every other day) is the cause, though it normally does not cause it.
Update: Turns out glycol (specifically PEG-400) tastes mildly sweet to some people, but bitter sweet to others. So maybe IPAM is not responsible for the my bitter taste.
What company did you get IPAM from?
Thanks for the update, interested to hear more as you continue.
I used the liquid IPAM from Umbrella Labs 6mg/ml, using 0.33 ml per day (approx). As mentioned above I paid $100 for 4 bottles of 30ml (180mg IPAM) each on the Memorial day sale.
FYI it’s estimated that roughly half the oral dose taken gets systemically absorbed so maybe 1 mg / day effective dose doesn’t do much.
True, but presumably the mice (whose 0.3mg/kg dosage translated to 1.8 mg/day for a 70kg human) have the same 50% bioavailability ?
Another study used 0.5mg/kg for the mice, which would translate to 3 mg/day for a 70kg human : That would be 0.5 ml/day of the Umbrella Labs solution, which might be easier to measure than 0.33 ml/day.
Medaura, do you have anything you can mention about how you’ve used ibutamoren and what it’s effects have been. Thanks.
I’m not using it myself. One of my children is 3-4th percentile in height and no appetite so I just started at the dose given in the phase 2 clinical trial vs hgh injections. It’s supposed to take 1-2 weeks for appetite to pick up and for her it already is in less than a week. Not a ravenous appetite but considerably better than baseline. She’s already gained almost a pound in a week which is major for her, though it could be partly water retention. Still, it seems to be working. You can read about the trial and how it performs vs hgh.
Quick report on my first IPAM experience.
Source: Umbrella Labs, 1g powder. It’s a white powder that is someone sticky, which makes it challenging to work with.
Dose: Attempted to allocate 2mg to capsules, but my scale is not precise enough to measure that accurately. Dosage likely in the 2-5mg range.
Objective: I have a stutter and according to this theory, stuttering may partially be due to low neuronal energy supply in certain areas of the brain. Since IPAM should help facilitate ATP production, maybe it can help reduce stuttering?
Results: High chance of placebo
- speech was very fluent yesterday, and even into today (I did not dose today, see side effects). Blocks and repetitions were minor, and would likely be viewed as normal speech hesitations in a person without a stutter. Vocal cords felt very relaxed and my voice felt a lot less tense, or forced, than usual.
Other positives: was very focused and productive, got a lot of work done yesterday and did not procrastinate on some of tedious things. I also felt hungrier and ate more than usual, list this under positives becomes I am slightly underweight (BMI < 20).
Side effects: insomnia, only got 3-4 hours of sleep last night. Teeth grinding at night too, which rarely happens to me, the grinding broke up my sleep and happened often last night. Because of insomnia, I did not dose again today. And despite the sleep deprivation, I feel functional and my speech is still good today (this may just be skewed perception from lack of sleep).
I will test this again and likely dissolve in a liquid (what liquid? ChatGPT is telling me it may not be very water soluble) to get more precise dosing. Will start lower and work my way up to find the right balance between beneficial and side effects if possible.
You might find an adjustment in terms of sleep energy and if you take it on a longer timescale the insomnia stops. Like mk7
Here’s how I make my own custom capsules. Maybe there’s a better way, but this has worked for me so far. Usually, I determine the capsule size and dose, then mix the active ingredient very thoroughly with a filler (e.g., starch). For a super tiny dosage, I use a mini capsule. Say you want to make 30 capsules with 2 mg IPAM each. You’d need 60 mg of the active ingredient plus around 5 grams of a harmless filler to get roughly 165–170 mg per capsule, with about 2 mg of IPAM per capsule.
Doesn’t sound such a slam dunk for placebo to me. Can you please detail the time of day you took it?
You may be right, I will continue testing IPAM and see if things even out with time.
Took it at 9am, would be very happy if this were not placebo, especially if insomnia goes away with time like John Hemming suggests it might.
I’ll make sure to definitely not take it at night before bed!
Depends on the individual. See comments in this thread. I’m in the increase in energy camp, but it may make you sleepy. Only one way to know…
Do you take melatonin at night?
