Risk factors for gallstone formation during rapid loss of weight
From the study.
"The factors identified by this study are useful in predicting patients at high risk for gallstones."
Being overweight is a bigger risk factor than gallstones.
- At 24 months post-cessation, 56% of semaglutide, 52% of liraglutide, and 55% of tirzepatide patients kept the weight off or lost additional weight.
- Complete weight regain occurred in 23% of semaglutide, 21% of tirzepatide, and 27% of liraglutide users at 24 months.
- Weight trajectories stabilized after 12 months, with only small variations in the distribution of weight outcomes through year two.
As I recall, that’s significantly better than just dieting. One explanation might be that these drugs have long-lasting metabolic effects. To me that has the whiff of something that permanently reverses epigenetic aging by some number of years; if a drug only reverses some aspect of aging as long as you take the drug, then it isn’t really reversing those aspects of aging.
