Why aren't you serious about Longevity?

I am. I’m dead serious that I want to rejuvenate my brain and achieve true life extension, reversing aging throughout my body. Even Immortality. Maybe this group is mainly for hobbyists who mercifully pray for just a few extra years with meticulous diet, reading lots of articles, and ingestion of drugs that suggest some benefit to insulin regulation. I feel like I’m a spiked boots hardcore metal headbanger among a plaid sweater wearing Simon & Garfunkel crowd or something. Honestly would like to know why you guys aren’t as dedicated to this. Maybe it’s because I’m single, I don’t know, but I do know you guys are soft.

Why do you think people here are not serious about longevity? You say people just read papers. Maybe because you don’t read, or at least I have not seen you discuss extensively the various longevity papers, you have less of a grasp about what is a realistic and achievable goal within the foreseeable future. That might be the reason why achievable goals strike you as not serious. Feel free to chart out a path to more “serious” longevity interventions and you’ll find most here very interested. We have not found much that’s actually achievable beyond the drug interventions you reference as inadequate (and most here fully agree), but it’s not for lack of trying or lack of ambition or motivation. If you have concrete suggestions for how we could do better in the current realities, I for one would be very interested to hear it. Be the change you want to see. The ball is in your court. Lead the way!

This thread started poorly and is just getting worse.

Then this may not be the forum for you.

Sure… but ultimately you can’t go any faster than the science - and the science is just not there yet - so we follow the progress and do what we can.

What is it that you’re doing that makes you a hardcore metal headbanger when it comes to longevity?

You have a good point. It’s not for lack of trying in some peoples’ case it’s just lack of access and knowledge of what’s really going on in the human longevity field (ALOT of secrecy and censorship, breakthroughs NOT being publicized, billionaires involved). When I have the means, equipment and materials, I will lead the way. Thank you for the constructive criticism.

Breakthroughs in animals still need to be validated in humans and that’s where secrecy fails.

You’re essentially right, I haven’t done all I’m capable of doing in my quest. And my post was really expressing my frustration at my own slow progress I think. But yes, I’m ahead of most good folks on this forum with realizing true life extension.

Hint: Hot mic catches Xi and Putin discussing organ transplants and immortality

This was NOT a “hot mic moment”, as the Western news outlets suggest. Putin and Xi would not have been discussing this in front of the cameras and reporters if they didn’t want to introduce this concept to the public, this was planned/prepared between them. The Chinese have already done human studies which haven’t been made public however. This is what I’m researching, and it’s quite literally beyond what most people on this forum discuss or expect.

@Chu_Kim I would love to hear what you are doing thus far, even if it’s not all you want to accomplish. I might pick up some valuable tips!

People interested in the topic know there is a shot at achieving biological immortality this century but most approaches have severe limitations and don’t necessarily address all possible causes of aging.

What makes you so sure that doing it “all” and going “hardcore” is not actually making you much worse ? We are playing with our lives here and trying every possible intervention based on scant evidence is very risky.
I have seen this play out in amateur athletes, whether be weightlifting where people go “hardcore” and end up getting injured with permanent disabilities - whether be torn rotator cuffs, slipped discs etc. from improper form, over use or inadequate rest. Heck, even in silly game of pickleball, there are many players that tear their achilles tendon bc they don’t invest their time in to proper warm up, stretching and strengthening their muscles and tendons.

Most people here are very committed to longevity but their wise enough to recognize the risks of various interventions and proceed with caution.

You, on other hand sound impatient and hasty, in an emerging field of longevity any miscalculation can cost you dearly.

Heavy metal, if anything, was born in Birmingham in the 60s and 70s. In the late 70s I was a drummer in a heavy metal/punk band in Birmingham. However, even then I didn’t do headbanging.

If you want to extend your life you need to keep your brain in a good shape and I think the advice not to be a headbanger is good advice.

Not if you are headbanging. I have not seen an RCT and cannot quite understand what the placebo would be, but I don’t think headbanging is a route to improved healthspan or lifespan.

It’s out in the open, there’s no need for secrecy, longevity is mainstream. We already have dozens of therapies on the way on (Lists of) Aging Clinical Trials

It actually should be boring and not interesting, it should be like doing your taxes, IMO. The fun stuff is everything else.

I support people leaking documents here, it would be like the DoD discord leaks for clout, or people desperately want to correct people on the WarThunder forums they have to leak schematics of some Russian tank.

War Thunder is a free-to-play combat simulator developed by Gaijin Entertainment. It features realistic battles across air, land, and sea, with a strong focus on military vehicles from World War II to the modern era. Players can pilot tanks, fly fighter jets, and command naval vessels in online matches against others around the world. The game is well known for its attention to detail and technical accuracy, which has made it popular with military enthusiasts, including current and former service members. The War Thunder forum is where much of the community gathers to discuss vehicles, share feedback, and debate game balance. It is also, strangely enough, where several real-world document leaks have occurred.

Why do classified military documents keep getting leaked on the War Thunder forum?

By the time the young airman was arrested in 2023, media scholar PS Berge had been studying Discord and its users for three years and had created an online consortium of other academic researchers who were doing the same. That an intelligence leak occurred on the site, creating a national security incident, didn’t come as a shock to her.

“My response was, ‘Of course. Of course this would happen on Discord,’” Berge said. “Because on a platform like this, you share everything with your people. Everything about your life. So, why not share national security secrets?”

You’re spending way too much time down in the rat hole of conspiracy theories on YouTube and social media.

The people who are rigorous in reading the science on this website know more than anyone that we are not close to significant life extension. We can’t make mice live more than 30% longer than normal. It might feel good to think that you know more than all the world’s scientists who spend their lives focusing on longevity bioscience, but we all need to be fact and science-based or you will spend your life chasing fools gold.

It’s a free world - so if you want to spend your time on conspiracy theories that is your choice. But pleases don’t waste our time on this type of stuff. This is a science-focused website. There are many other non-science-based discussion forums for conspiracy theorists out there - perhaps those are better fit for your interests.
