I went through a few statins, had the leg pain when first prescribed low dose atorvastatin in 2010 and had no idea what was going on, it was debilitating could hardly go up the stairs… I was just borderline so this was intended to keep me out of the red zone.
I tried CoQ10 and other internet fixes, didn’t work for me.
Changed to Pravastatin (water soluble, so minimal accumulation) and still could barely tolerate half doses so I would cycle on and off to manage that. One week on would bring the pain, one week off and it would go away. So I would do 3 days on and 3 days off, what a pain to keep track of. And my lipid profile was still high marginal.
Last year I found taking full doses, 25mg daily had no issues. What happened?
First I though it might be my weight loss or maybe the GLP1-R+GIP. Last week I ran out of one of my “recent” supplements. A sup that I added about 1 year ago. Within a week of running out, my leg pain started back up. I received my shipment and got right back on it.
What was it that seems to work for me?
600mg Magnesium daily, higher than “recommended” but works for me.
Bempedoic Acid and Ezetemibe works as well as a statin for me without the muscle pains and side effects of statins.
Bis-glycinate - When I get up I have a 8oz glass of water, then 10 to 15 minutes later I take the statin first thing in the morning.
About 30 to 45 minutes later I’m having my super duper shake that includes the 600mg bis-glycinate so approx 100mg elemental mag
