What is the best selenium blood test?

I took excess amounts of a melatonin supplement with selenium (each pill is 50 percent RDA but I often took many pills) for a long time and didn’t realize there were non selenium alternatives to it… So I’m concerned

Its a sensible thing to do a test. You can then work out if you need to try to do a selenium washout. (ie deliberately avoid selenium for a while).

I find it really irritating when you get combinations of substances in a supplement where it is not obvious from the label. Melatonin at times comes with forms of vitamin B6 where it is actually quite easy to overdose.

More recently I have concluded Melatonin probably assists with preventing mitochondrial heteroplasmy. It probably cannot reverse it, but preventing (or limiting) is a good thing.

Other things like Rapamycin can help reducing heteroplasmy although there are some challenges where the mitochondrial membrane potential is normal, but the mitochondrial dna creates dysfunctinonal mitochondria (ATP synthase is a potential gene that can be mutated in a harmful manner without affecting the mitochondrial membrane potential.
