FDA Processing refers to the review of import entries by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to determine the admissibility of regulated products, such as food, drugs, cosmetics, and medical devices. This process is managed through the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE), where the FDA acts as a Partner Government Agency (PGA).

Key aspects of FDA PGA clearance include:

Mandatory Data Submission: Effective July 9, 2025, the PGA filing exemption for low-value shipments under the Section 321 de minimis threshold ($800) was rescinded. All FDA-regulated products, including previously exempt items like cosmetics and most foods, must now include PGA data in Entry Type 86 filings.
Electronic Review: Entries are transmitted via the Automated Broker Interface (ABI). The FDA screens these submissions using its OASIS system, which may result in a “May Proceed” (automatic release), “Notice/Query” (request for more info), or “Hold/Refuse” (detention or denial).
Required Information: Importers must provide accurate data including the FDA Country of Production, Complete FDA Product Code, and Affirmation of Compliance codes. Missing or inconsistent data often triggers manual reviews, leading to delays and storage costs.
Prior Notice: For food and feed shipments, Prior Notice must be filed with the FDA 2–72 hours before arrival, separate from the PGA message set, to facilitate pre-emptive risk assessment.

Which vendor did you order from?

Never use UPS or FedEx or DHL for shipping from India unless you like being ripped off.

FWIW…

My purchase was not from India

Was from a Pharmaceutical supplier from the EU.

Besides the cost of lost medicine, I found out the hard way this summer that if you have something confiscated, they will deny you acceptance to TSA Pre-check and Global entry. :unamused:

I’m shocked to learn this! Was this from normal rx’s or did you perhaps get caught being sent a controlled substance?

…

tyranny
/tĭr′ə-nē/
noun

  1. Unjust or oppressive governmental power.

  2. A government in which a single ruler is vested with absolute power.

people liberated from a brutal tyranny.

  1. The office, authority, or jurisdiction of an absolute ruler.

Pisistratus held the tyranny of Athens.

From The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, 5th Edition.

This is so stupid. Sometimes crooks use your address to mail contraband and under observation pick up from your mailbox before you can receive it. Like porch bandits. How do customs know you actually ordered the confiscated package? Does this mean you can cause someone to lose their TSA/global entry just by sending them a fake package? Lovely. Because what’s their verification process? If your package gets confiscated you can always claim you know nothing about it and didn’t order it - how would they know you are telling the truth and are innocent? It’s already confiscated, you lose nothing by denying ownership.

All in all, it’s just dumb, as all repressive systems. This is what we’ve come to, scheming just to get affordable medication, SMH.

Perhaps an option for some people:

Amazon, GoodRx target US prescription subscribers as health insurance coverage slips

NEW YORK, Sept 29 (Reuters) - Amazon.com, GoodRx, and other companies offering online subscriptions that charge a flat fee for prescription drugs and other health services are reaping the benefits of Americans looking to combat rising costs and dwindling health insurance options.

The prescription plans cost from $5 per month at Amazon to $14.99 ‌at GoodRx and include free access to select generic drugs. GoodRx’s program, called Companion, also offers discounts on telehealth and common vision, dental and lab services.

Analysts said these monthly fee-based services can help consumers save money even when they have health insurance.

“If someone is on multiple drugs, this kind of subscription can make a lot of sense," said Truist analyst Jailendra Singh.

Health insurance premiums and out-of-pocket costs have risen in part due to higher prices for medical services, and millions of Americans have dropped individual plans offered under the Affordable Care Act in 2026. Costs for employers who sponsor most private insurance plans will rise up to 11% in 2027, benefits consultants say.

“Since we launched RxPass in 2023, the number of customers using the program has grown nearly threefold, and more than 70% fill three or more different medications with us,” said John Love, vice president at Amazon Pharmacy. "That tells us RxPass is reaching people with ongoing health needs, where consistent access to affordable refills really matters.”

In this case, you would get a certified letter from customs, your best course of action would be to ignore said letter. You usually have 3 options when you receive letter from them: abandonment, contest of the seizure, asking for a reduced fine. Ignoring the letter is the same as abandoning. Ignoring the letter leaves the government with little to no direct evidence connecting you to the purchase or intent to import.

Perhaps someone could explain to me how to get more than a one-month supply from an online doc?

I abandoned the online doc method several years ago because I could only get a one-month prescription and had to pay the online doc each month for a new one. Not to mention that they were not willing to prescribe many of the meds I get from India. This was not particularly cost-effective, so that is why I source all of my unconventional meds from India.

Was I just using the wrong online prescriber? Can anyone recommend an online prescribing site that will prescribe a 90-day supply, for instance?

I don’t mind paying reasonable fees, but paying a prescriber once a month seems to be defeating the purpose of obtaining drugs at a reasonable fee in the US.

I’ve used PushHealth.com and gotten a 3 month prescription no problem. Probably dependent on the vendor. Try asking at the start of the communications.

That is exactly the site I used. It seems like the luck of the draw. Last time I was dealing with a truly disturbed PA. If the India sources dry up, maybe I will try them again.

OK, but how do you get stuff like imeglimin through our teledocs, or obicetrapib when the latter gets marketed in europe, but we’re still waiting on the FDA stateside? There’s always going to be drugs unavailable in the states, and if you want/need them badly, you will be forced to find some kind of way to import them - at which point you may as well save yourself the $ and hassle and import your whole stack again. Unless your stack is exclusively stuff available stateside, I don’t see much point in local teledocs/clinics. But we’ll see how bad this customs/FDA situation gets - I’m counting on human ingenuity :sunglasses:.

This is concerning.

What were the circumstances? Was your stuff confiscated at the airport during a customs check upon reentry into the US, or was it something you were getting through the mail, and then you applied for TSA/Global Entry later and got denied? Sharing your story would definitely help people avoid the issue.
