Are you prescribed the 25mg Jardiance? I ‘self prescribed’ 12.5mg which resulted in the higher creatinine levels and now take half a tablet a day and drink more water. My urinary glucose was off the scale on a test strip hence increasing water intake which definitely helped a lot. Maybe try a month off the Jardiance and re-test or increase water intake and retest after a few weeks.
I’ve used every supplement in your list over the past 30 years, tested blood regularly and have never had creatinine above 90 (UK numbers).
self described… yeah, I’m looking at the jardiance as a possible culprit… but it is a medicine prescribed for CKD actually, thats how positive for CKD it is supposed to be… I’ll be having a variety of tests and talking to my nephrologist about it. maybe dosage is too high
Creatinine metabolises in blood and also is sensitive to exercise so getting a reliable result is a good idea.
Telmisartan will reliably cause an increase in SCr with initiation of the drug and sometimes during dose increases. Anything within 30% of baseline is usually considered inconsequential. You are just barely above that 30% increase.
Seems like you jumped straight to the highest dose of 80 mg, so try taking 1/4 to 1/2 of the dose for 2-4 weeks and get retested. These drugs have a double-whammy effect when used with NSAIDS like ibuprofen or naproxen, so watch for that as well.
I read this too…
And I read it can reduce proteinuria while sometimes increasing serum creatinine
will be interesting to see when I do these panel results if in fact proteinuria is reduced with this ridiculous serum creatinine
I am 6’ 6" 250 pounds, mostly muscle. I was led to believe that I had CKD for several years before I learned about Cystatin C.It was the nephrologist who never mentioned Cystatin C. My cystatin C and Cystatin C estimated Glomerular filtration rate I now know are normal. Also if you take Creatine it will raise your Creatinine level. Many doctors don’t know about this or understand this. I will always have a high creatinine. No amount of hydration makes it normal. Every time I get labs I have to explain it to the Doc.
Actually having additional muscle increases creatinine even without supplemental creatine. Doing exercise (I walk my son to school) increases creatinine. The time between the blood draw and the test being done increases creatinine.
It would be interesting to know your creatinine figures and your Cystatin-C figures if only to give an indication of how far out creatinine can be as with muscle and supplementation you are likely to be an outlier on this.
It would also be interesting to know Urate and Urea as they are affected by GFR although also by lots of other things.
I am fairly muscular with a relatively low body fat percentage. Last time I had both creatinine and cystatin-C checked, my cystatin-C based eGFR was 131, and my creatinine based eGFR was 80. The combined eGFR based on both was 108.
More recently my creatinine based eGFR was 60, so I have to do cystatin-C again soon to make sure, but it is probably down to body composition and recently starting Telmisartan (just 20mg daily) prior to the last panel.
I spoke to a nephrologist about Cystatin-C about a year ago and for some reason she did not like it. To me it is clear that there are frequently big problems with creatinine. I think a lower Urate and lower Urea is a good sign of effective kidney function which can be used as a guide without Cystatin-C (which is hard to get in the UK).
I don’t know if my doctor would order a urate test to triangulate. My BUN is high, but that can also be explained by a high protein diet and regular exercise. I don’t know how well BUN and urate correlate.
Its difficult because there are other factors that drive these. In the UK the broader well man panel that I have every week always includes Urate and Urea.
Good news. Serum Creatinine nowhere where it was in my test in Honduras and protein in urine as good as it has been
Relief. I was panicked in creating the thread
