Speaking on Fox News, Kennedy described the “Bobby Kennedy diet"
“Basically, it’s the carnivore diet. So, it’s mainly meat and then fermented — anything fermented. So, a lot of yogurt, good yogurt without sugar in it. Then, coleslaw and kimchi and all kinds of fermented vegetables. And it’s really, I would say it’s dramatically changed my, you know, everything.”
It’s common sense to eat more saturated fats such as meats, cheese and dairy according to the new US guidelines. These foods have been unfairly vilified and should be encouraged in the nation’s schools and diet.
My biggest concern here is that these guidelines mostly affect school children, as schools will be the largest adopters of the new guidelines. (Adults could care less as it doesn’t show up in their TikTok feeds). Therefore, school meals will become much higher in saturated fats. This will lead to a much higher incidence of cardiovascular disease when the children grow up.
My inner cynic says this is a new way to save Social Security by having everyone drop dead of a coronary before they can start collecting benefits! As always, the poor will bear the brunt of this poor decision, and they will pay with their health and lives.
I’m not a meat hater, and I do think the fermented foods are brilliant - kimchi, sauerkraut, etc… Even dairy and cheese have their place. However, knowing the American school system, they’ll probably serve hamburgers and pizza every day and skip the good stuff because kids won’t eat kimchi, sauerkraut, or non-sugary yoghurt.
