Trump/ Musk cut, then promise to restore women's health research

I don’t understand the US anymore. How much does everyone hate us women these times?

Well, I guess the good news in all these NIH budget cuts is that they did save the women’s study:

The Trump administration has promised to restore funding to a landmark study on women’s health days after researchers leading the study announced their funding had been cut – news that prompted outcry from medical experts and scientists.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said in a statement Friday to ABC News that it will restore funding to the Women’s Health Initiative, a 30-year study of over 160,000 women that has led to discoveries in women’s health on everything from cancer and hormone therapy to chronic disease, aging and osteoporosis.

“This is the largest and most groundbreaking study of women’s health, and we’re learning so much about prevention of chronic disease, healthy aging, extending health span, years of life that are free of major chronic diseases with good memory and cognition and mobility, and quality of life,” Manson, who is also Preventive Medicine division chief at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and a Harvard Medical School professor, told ABC News on Thursday.

Obviously we need a lot more money flowing into research on women, not less.

This is an example of why running public authorities is difficult. Not suited to.DOGE. Which is too simplistic.

I’m waiting for somebody, anybody to START men’s health research (at least equal the expenditure on women’s). I believe it is 3+ times less than total for female in all aspects.
On the other hand, there is a lot of waste (DOGE or not) in funding for dead-end, minimal impact or outright ridiculous funding of some so-called research.

Many people probably think government contractors waste taxpayer dollars, but in fact, they are saddled with so many compliance requirements that it drives up costs and time required to complete a contract.

I worked for government contractors for over 60 years and watched the compliance requirements increase to ridiculous levels, making it almost impossible to complete a job on time and within budget.

I had AI make an image of something that I actually saw at one of my workplaces.

A security gate had a loose post that had to be fixed. This picture is no exaggeration of what I witnessed.
