I’m planning on bringing some medicine for my mother that I bought in China. It’s not prescription in China but it is in the USA. However since I only see her once a year, I wanted to bring a years supply. My question is how to best carry it. Should I divide it equally between my carry on and checked luggage or just keep it all in my carry on? Last year I brought half the amount in my carry on and it wasn’t a problem. It’s about 800 pills. Thoughts?
There are two questions here:
a) Travelling with prescription medicine where you may need the prescription.
b) Whether you are taking too much by value and may need to pay a tariff.
Hence the value is an issue.
Some countries and I don’t know the situation with the USA require prescriptions to import medicine even for your own use. The UK is not one of those countries apart from controlled substances such as morphine.
Customs hardly ever checks. As long as you just keep it in your carry-on naturally, you’ll be fine.
