The living proof longevity challenge
Humans are living longer than ever before. Yet, most of us experience more years of chronic illness as we age. We may be living more years, but those years often contain more suffering.
It doesn’t have to be that way.
The Living Proof 12-Week Program is a science-based, habit-building challenge designed to optimise your physical and mental well-being, reduce your risk of chronic disease and help you live longer.
Working with an incredible team of health experts, we’ve created this zero-cost downloadable PDF to guide you through 12 life-changing weeks to boost your longevity. It all starts February 1st 2024 and we want YOU there with us.
I listened to one of his podcast episodes earlier this month - on Zone 2 and mitochondrial health - and it was the best podcast on Zone 2 I’ve listened to
Yes, that is the one!
There are many exercise physiologists that disagree with him and will say that higher intensities stimulate mitochondria even more but z2 can be done a lot more which for endurance performance is important but if you are not aspiring to become an endurance athlete higher intensities offer much more bang for buck health increases
Thanks @Arhu . Can you point me to anything solid on that?
I do [know] that a lot of people are saying that total cardio can be trained more at higher intensives [than zone 2] - including training of lung capacity/ heart output) - (which is why I personally do some VO2max / Zone 4-5 training sometimes).
But I had not heard that anyone thinks the best zone for maximizing mitochondrial function is different [or higher than zone 2] than the max fat oxidation zone, aka zone 2.
I don’t understand what you are saying
Made some clarifications above
Can you point me to things that support your point about mitochondria being optimized more at higher zones than zone 2?
(In case you were thinking that’s just a forum post by some anonymous keyboard but it’s a post from the man that invented power zones and defined zone 2 and other power zones)
There is no evidence other than anecdotal evidence that zone 2 exercise improves mitochondrial function the most. Inigo mentions this in the video by stating it is from his experience and they are working on the science.
I’ve become more and more skeptical of this over time. Especially when so much is asked for. They suggest 1 h - 1.5 h training almost every day.
Z2 is better than z1 (or z0 ie doing nothing) and an easy way to add more volume without more additional fatigue for endurance athletes but for time crunched people looking to optimise their health very inefficient
Thx. Will take a look.
Thank you for this, I’m looking forward to listen to these. But of course, I won’t be implementing everything, maybe nothing, they d advise, I’m sure. As most of the time, advice that demands to create time no one has in a daily basis to start new routines, don’t work. Advice and guidance are great, but they need to fit one s daily life.
