I sponsored Urolithin A with Ora Biomedical. We’ll see if they reproduce this result. However, trials on humans so far have been very disappointing:
This is just an evaluation of muscle endurance. It cannot be equated with the idea that improved muscle endurance necessarily leads to longevity. We still need to look at the issue dialectically.
These, however, are the people selling Urolithin A hence there is a conflict of interest.
This systemic study indicates weak evidence for UA.
In this systematic review, the effect of direct supplementation with UA on aging and age-related diseases in humans is being summarized.

There is very limited evidence on the effect of UA in human aging. UA showed some improvement in mitochondrial activity and autophagy. It decreased inflammatory markers and increased muscle strength and endurance, however, it did not affect gut microbiota composition and physical function. Further research across a wider range of physiological systems, higher number of individuals and longer intervention periods is required.

You might not have carefully reviewed the specific content. In fact, it improved many anti-aging inflammation markers, which precisely indicates that it has great potential.
Four months of 500 mg UA significantly decreased the levels of interleukin-1 beta (IL-1ß), but not C-reactive protein (CRP), interferon-gamma (INF- γ), and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) (A. et al., 2022). A higher dose of UA (1000 mg/day for 4 months) led to significant decreases in CRP, INF- γ, and TNF-α levels compared to placebo, but it did not affect the level of IL-1ß (A. Singh et al., 2022). Both doses did not affect the levels of IL-13 and IL-6 compared to placebo at 4 months (A. Singh et al., 2022).
I read all of it and I’ve read more than a few studies on this compound and I take UA daily. It’s in my Max-5 super duper mix
The conclusion is from that study and makes some good points, it’s not my conclusion. It’s also not an industry funded study whereas most of the other studies are funded by companies involved in the UA industry.
I’m not opposed to that type of funding as many studies to get things going would not be done otherwise. When we see larger cohort studies in humans, will tell the tale. Then the issue is who is going to fund a large study on a readily available dietary supplement?
I was quoted $350k to do a small 30 subject single arm study on my product. Not a lot of supplement companies with new products can afford that kind of spend so quoting functional studies at the in vitro and in vivo level is what happens to support the hypothesis before good Phase 1 studies in humans happen. Getting to a large cohort Phase 3 study is a daunting task for any small dietary supplement company. But those are the gold standard.
Thank you, Steve, that was a great response. I am also a user of Urolithin A.
Did they mention when the results will be announced?
My problem is the scope of my personal program expands on a regular basis LoL!
I read a lot of studies and as a 68y/o I’m trying to get to the finish line as healthy as I can. Sometimes I can be very “crow” like and get distracted by a shiny new bauble in the longevity field. Often I’ll try something that is new to me and some of those stick to my routine and many don’t. The issue with that… I, like many people, can’t afford the type of intense testing that is required to truly evaluate each compounds effect on my results.
With UA and my Max-5 experiment, I won’t really know which of those 5 compounds is having an effect, individually. I don’t have years to test these things which puts my mind in the “kitchen sink” mode.
So I often go with a bit of “faith” that the science is reasonable when I decide on something new to me. Until it isn’t
I admire your beliefs and attitude towards life.
It takes about 2 months to test one compound. So I should get the results next month.
