‘The bar has risen’: China’s biotech gains push US companies to adapt

The US Gov serves its own interests, the people is more like there to produce GDP, from what I’ve heard recently. It’s built on a non-libertarian foundation: Explosive CIA Face-Off: Loyal Officer VS Dissident Spy 1:45:22

We seem to be moving towards totalitarianism in almost all countries with few exceptions. You don’t get out of those situations via peaceful means.

US science after a year of Trump

A series of graphics reveals how the Trump administration has sought historic cuts to science and the research workforce.

More than 7,800 research grants terminated or frozen. Some 25,000 scientists and personnel gone from agencies that oversee research. Proposed budget cuts of 35% — amounting to US$32 billion.

These are just a few of the ways in which Donald Trump has downsized and disrupted US science since returning to the White House last January. As his administration seeks to reshape US research and development, it has substantially scaled back and restricted what science the country pursues and the workforce that runs the federal scientific enterprise.

A year into Trump’s second presidential term, Nature presents a series of graphics that reveal the impact of his administration on science.

It’s time for us all here to leave our respective countries and move to a longevity city

It genuinely makes me sad that my home country is becoming more and more corrupt, tyrannical and inept.

They generally don’t have armies. (or navies or air forces)

I’d happily join you in this longevity city!

I used to be so proud to be from the US… now it’s simply humiliating (I realize I have plenty of company)… I also used to think it was cool to move to the Bay Area with all the tech companies, but now I find their leadership to be cringey

Sigh.

Everyone should have their own self realization. Any form of leadership is always at risk of corruption due to greed. However once in a while if you get a good leader, everything is much better. That is why lobbyists are one of the worst enemy of democracy.

Hong Kong is the ultimate longevity city. It has the longest lifespans and it’s a great place to live. I’m never living in the USA again. Just visit friends and family.

Hong Kong has it’s negatives. From a longevity perspective the air pollution can be horrible which certainly is a negative for longevity. Population density is very high. If you’re not accustomed to the crowds, it can be mentally taxing. What characteristics are you referring to that make it attractive from a longevity perspective?

Hong Kong has the highest life expectancy of any country in the world. It is incredibly safe. Tax rates are incredibly low. It has free socialized health care. Of course there’s more but that’s just a few key points

That’s fantastic of course. My problem is what happens when China finally completely absorbs HK, and that looks to happen much before the “50 years dual system” runs out in the 2040’s. I don’t want to become old and find myself in a dictatorship. Nothing is guaranteed - looks like that’s where the US is headed in giant steps - but I’d be making plans to look elsewhere as plan B. That vacation home one bought in Europe is looking more and more like an escape hatch. Hope Europe doesn’t go down the same terrible path, I don’t fancy having to keep moving in my old age one step ahead of the jackboots.

Hong Kong has been essentially integrated into China. We have lost a lot of freedom of speech in regards to talking negatively about the government. The USA is quickly headed in the same direction. If you are willing to not talk negatively about the government in public, life is as free as living in a Western country.

To me it’s a small concession for all the benefits. Every place has it’s pros and cons. I’d gladly give up the ability to criticize the government for safety from guns and crime and a low tax rate. And if things go to pot, I can move back to the USA. It’s always good to have options. You may want to consider a second passport.

This guy is great to listen to regarding second passports.

Obesity is already a solved problem. Give us myostatin inhibitors next!

Lilly is far ahead of everyone else, both in the number of molecules they’re developing, and in the total number of trials for the next few years:

  • 5 trials for Brenipatide, a dual GLP1/GIP agonist for neurological issues like alcohol abuse, smoking addiction, etc.
  • 1 trial for Mazdutide, targeting alcohol abuse
  • 2 trials for the combination of tirzepatide and eloralintide for weight loss. This is Lilly’s answer to Novo’s CagriSema
  • additional trials on tirzepatide:
    • tirzepatide + a leptin agonist
    • tirzepatide + a myostating inhibitor
    • weight maintenance on tirzepatide
    • higher tirzepatide dosage (20-25mg)
  • for retatrutide, we have TRIUMPH5, TRANSCEND-T2D-1, 2, 3

So what’s effectively up for grabs is second place.
