Soil Disturbance Impact on Crop Ergothioneine Content Connects Soil and Human

I just wanted to pass this along. It probably interests me more than most of you. I’m a 40 year no-till farmer from the rolling hills of NW Iowa. Also I grow and hunt mushrooms.

It turns out (from the study) that most ergothioneine is made by fungus, and that found in grain is put there via fungus. No till farming gives grain that is 30% higher in Ergo than conventional tillage.

I’ve always known soil tilth comes from mycelium, and that tillage ruins it by making it anarobic. In the hills, no till is the way. The down side is reliance on chemicals.
