This would be huge. Most people that don’t have a high enough AHI to be diagnosed with sleep apnea still have some sleep events while asleep. I would bet something like this (if safe) could be used for longevity even in people without diagnosed sleep apnea since it could technically improve sleep quality if it works as advertised.

GLP1s are still a better option for now if you’re talking pharmacological. I also theorize (and personally practice) that something like telmisartan at night before bed will help control blood pressure spikes that can occur during apnea events.

The combination is

  • Atomoxetine 75 mg
  • Aroxybutynin 2.5 mg

Weirdly atomoxetine is used for narcolepsy, so it is wakefulness promoting. It might help sleep apnea but it might interrupt sleep.

Aroxybutynin is blocks muscarinic acetylcholine receptors which can negatively impact memory formation, attention and REM sleep. Possibly also a dementia risk.

Aroxybutynin is designed to have less central nervous system penetration but studies will have to reveal if this is true or not.

I would not take anything like this personally.

I’m currently in the planning phase of a bimaxillary advancement surgery (and a couple of other small adjustments in the same surgery) to completely or nearly completely eliminate the sleep apnea and breathing issue all together. I think on the whole this would be a pro-longevity move. I suspect improved sleep, improved blood pressure, improved breathing and improved resting heart rate.
