SGLT2 weekends only?

Hi all,
I’m new here and to the field more generally so not very good using the site, which seems to full of great ideas and information. Thanks to the people who run it!
I have two questions if anyone can help.

  • One is, has anyone tested taking sglt2 inhibitors periodically, e.g. just on weekends when they might overeat more?
  • Other is, is there any contraindication of sglt2 when taking rapamycin? Anyone taking both and if so, any thoughts?

I’m thinking of sglt2 inhibitor because I have have fairly low hematocrit, apparently they increase EPO production, and wouldn’t mind losing a few kgs, which I think they can also do.
If anyone os taking sglt2 which do you suggest might be good for me to try given the aims?
Thanks, everyone.

Welcome @LearnerLord. I’m not sure what benefits you might see from intermittent use of an SGLT2i. As I recall steady-state concentrations are generally reached within six days of regular administration, perhaps as soon as four days. The hematocrit and hemoglobin increase is likely low but significant for most people, especially if you are low to start with. Maybe 2-3% increase in hematocrit and less than 1.0 g/dL in hemoglobin. Together, a good change though.

Why not just take it daily? What is the concern here?

Of interest- when I stop Empagliflozin I am significantly positive on urine glucose strips for 5 days, Then I become negative for urine glucose on day6. I suspect that twice weekly would be an ok starting point and then as you become comfortable with it you can go daily as others suggest.

Thanks so much @RobTuck this is really helpful for my thinking. I was thinking I overeat on weekends but not during the week. But you’re right. The main reason I want it is to see if it will increase EPO and hematocrit, which is borderline low, and figure this might help my exercise performance which has dropped off a bit after 60 yo. Kind regards

Oh wow, that’s really interesting. Thanks @Satchel I might give it a go and test if I see that effect as well. That could be useful information for people to know and open up more options for its use. I was also wondering about athletic performance when taking it. I mean, say someone is doing an endurance event or race. They might want their sugar higher, or not? I’ll report back once I’ve tested and see if I get the same effect. I’m waiting on the supply now.

Good point @LukeMV Thanks.

It will almost undoubtedly increase EPO and hematocrit if you take it daily

I could only hope to have an avatar as cool as Luke’s someday…

I do hope you will replace with an even better one… hahaha!

OMG, you’re right! @LukeMV no longer builds muscle at the gym!? I think he’s only doing yoga nowadays and his body reflects that… I’m expecting a rail thin Luke in down dog pose as an avatar soon…

@CronosTempi @Agetron Haha don’t worry guys I’m not slacking off at all. Just wanted to hide my picture from people I know in real life for the time being. I’ll probably put it back at some point. Still no yoga for me.

Hahaha… I definitely understand :100:.

Actually, I am shocked how often… the internet and AI pull my words from this very site.

But… being chronological 68.5 years and an irreverent 45 years biological, lol – I don’t care too much at this point.

You, Luke’ster, definitely have many years too get to that point in age. :stuck_out_tongue:

BTW… If I can find a big enough snake … I would plagiarized your pose.
