Scientists hail autoimmune disease therapy breakthrough

Breakthrough for autoimmune disease disease, Lupus and MS

This is exciting, especially if they can make this procedure less costly and easier to do.

My sister-in-law just had to go on dialysis (last week) due to kidney failure induced by lupus. If only this had been available sooner. :frowning:

However, I am happy that this may never have to happen again. Dialysis is a terrible way to live, and hopefully this will free up some patients from needing kidney transplants so that she can get one quickly.

How quickly can this procedure get to market?

Wondering how long it will take for this therapy to make it to clinical practice.
Another problem is that diagnostic biomarkers for different autoimmune diseases are commonly not sensitive enough - it often takes long for patients to get diagnosed and the damage by that time can be significant. Such as patients suffering from MS, PsA, RA but also intestinal autoimmune diseases, etc.
