I’m a 61 year old male with a mild case of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. I currently take no drugs for heart failure.
I’ve been taking sirolimus 5mg weekly for a month. I’ve been on an extreme ketogenic diet and lost about 20 lbs (10kg) in three months time.
I take Dasatinib 100mg plus Quercetin monthly.
My concern is whether combining all these mtor and autophagy inducing strategies might be harmful. Is there any reason to be concerned?
The only chronic symptoms that I have is rather severe muscle fatigue, exercise intolerance, and a lack of stamina, dyspnea. It’s difficult to say which symptoms are related to heart failure and which are related to mtor inhibition, Keto diet, or drugs.
On the upside: systolic BP has dropped from 150-170 to 110-120/70-80. I’ve discontinued anti-hypertensive medications (ARB), painful psoriasis on my elbows has completely disappeared for the first time in many years. I have a steady energy supply throughout the day (no carb/sugar crashes)
I was hoping the exercise intolerance and dyspnea would pass quickly but that hasn’t been the case. Any thoughts or comments appreciated.
I did the same thing at the same age. My biggest problem was cramps when running. I think the combo of keto and Rapa messes up the electrolytes?
I lost just a little more weight. That was about 3.5 years ago. Any time I try to increase the Rapa my blood sugar and lipids go up to where I’m not happy with the situation. I now use 4mg with grapefruit Juice every 2 weeks.
It takes your body a while to get used to burning fat. That’s what some call the keto flu. I had it pretty bad too, but after a few weeks it gets better. I’m not a doctor (farmer) so really don’t know what you mean by heart failure, or what you mean by exercise intolerance. It takes me about 9 minutes to run a mile, my heart rate is about 125 average. I do 2 miles a day. When I started out it took more like 12 minutes to do a mile. If I eat a few carbs I can do much better times, but I don’t do it because I’m convinced they are generally bad and need to be burned as consumed.
I don’t do the D+Q. I take Q, but don’t think they really know what they’re doing with that one.
Good Luck, you are doing great. Hang in there as things will improve every day.
