There are several treatments for “androgenetic alopecia”. Not interested. What I need is a cure for male genetic pattern baldness.
FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) hair transplant procedure.
No, no, no! Expensive, painful, etc. Plus, I am not sure how long that lasts.
I was under the impression those two terms were interchangeable
Even IF it works, it will be many years to get through the FDA.
Procedure is not that expensive,
You think people interested will wait for FDA approval?
This would/will be set up outside the US much quicker than you would imagine.
Is the difference male pattern baldness is forehead (receding hairline) and alopecia is top of the head?
Yes, continuously receding hairline is the mark of male pattern baldness.
An old rule of thumb, I don’t know the absolute accuracy, “If your mother’s brothers are bald, so shall you be”. In my case it is quite accurate, my uncles were as bald as billiard balls.
Androgenic Alopecia is the medical term for male pattern baldness. There was great hope for hair follicle cloning research by the Japanese but it failed to produce any viable commercial product. The only real cure for baldness will come from understanding the genetic differences between men with hair and those who lose it. Crispr technology to address it will be the ultimate tool. The “mother’s brothers” and other familial associations are myth. I think we will discover if rapamycin is truly anti-aging or not before we find why some men lose their hair.
The transplant will last forever because the hair transplanted is androgen resistant. The issue is that if you don’t use some form of preventive measure you will continue losing additional hair. Also there is a limited graft area so the hair density will never match that of your original hair. But hair cloning technology is moving forward very rapidly and it won’t be long before that won’t be an issue and unlimited grafts will be possible. But like anything this will take time to filter down to the general population.
At 82 years old, I really don’t care that I am bald.
Saves on the cost of getting a haircut.
