What recent galantamine discovery? I must have missed that. Any link to share?

I just read an article not 2 months old according to which the Amazon sources of galantamine were mostly bogus—some only contained a tiny fraction of the compound, others were bacterially contaminated. I don’t know if this led to a “voluntary recall” or what, as I’d still doubt the FDA can do anything about it. But from reading that article I concluded that I’d probably not want to risk it and opt for a prescription version of the generic anyway, if I wanted to try it.

This is the brand I am using and you can see it was available from Amazon as late as January 2024.

I originally bought it for some experiments in lucid dreaming I was doing. This is the real deal from a supplement supplier, owner of Relentless Improvement—19 years in the business.

Business Started:12/1/2004 Fully credited featured supplier from Longecity and Reddit nootropic users.

I think he started the business to get the nootropics he was personally involved in taking. ( This is just my opinion after reading some of the comments he has made}

This is also one of the few supplements I have taken that had immediate results.

This is a very psychoactive substance.

Taken before bedtime;

4 mg = full-color dreams

8 mg = Vivid full-color dreams

8 mg + 4mg, when you wake in the middle of the night, causes extremely vivid and realistic dreams. You know the kind that is so real that you don’t realize it is just a dream

Interestingly, it has no discernible effect when I take it in the daytime before noon, except to enhance cognition a little bit.

Definitely on my to-try list. Given the timing of the disappearance of all Amazon suppliers outside the pharmacy, pretty sure it had to do with this:

Probably Amazon kicked them all off for PR reasons though it’s BS as at least some of the tested brands were legit so they should have just specified which.

Galantamine can be bought in Russia with a prescription. Usually they do not ask for a prescription there.

“However, the GAL-INT Study Group5 reported that recorded mortality due to cardiovascular event was greater in the galantamine group than in the placebo group, and interestingly, about half of the deaths in galantamine appeared to result from various vascular causes (myocardial infarction, stroke, and sudden death).”

I haven’t looked at the GAL-INT study, but this did catch my eye…

Hard to find the exact study - here are some of the Gal-Int studies:

That study they cite has a much higher dosage for what it’s worth:

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety profiles of galantamine 24 mg/d in patients with VaD or AD with CVD over the longer term (>6 months).

I found this:

with 8mg galantamine hydrobromide, which this trademark info page

says is equivalent to 8mg galantamine base.

The FDA pdf is an excellent read.

“Through their primary action, cholinomimetics may be expected to increase gastric acid secretion due to increased cholinergic activity”
Unfortunately, I am experiencing this at 8mg/day without food. After reading the paper I will try to take it only with food.

Even sourcing it from India it is quite pricey. I recently bought 300, 4mg tablets from India at ~ 50 cents/4 mg, including shipping.

I am using it more as a nootropic sleep-enhancing drug. This may not be suitable for everyone as the effect on dreams varies widely according to Reddit users, etc.

Hi

Reading up on this thread with interest but confused on one point and practical issue on another.

Metformin 500mg
Leucine 1.2g
sildenafil 4mg

Firstly can you confirm this combination requires galantamine in addition to the above? The thread started with the synergy of Metformin and Galantamine ( which of itself was interesting) then appeared to go AWOL and move on to just the three mentioned above without including Galantamine

My take and what I will now move on to is:

Twice a day:

Metformin 500mg
Galantamine 4mg
Leucine 1.2g
sildenafil 4mg

Secondly, is Sildenafil available in 4mg? I can find nothing outside of 50/100 etc etc - wondered how people were dosing at these low levels from commercially available supplies?

Be grateful for any comments

Best wishes

Steve

Unless you have unwanted side effects, why not take the full dose of sildenafil?
I switched to tadalafil because I want to have a more continuous level in my blood
and it’s more convenient to take once a day. Many in the longevity field who are smarter than me take tadalafil over sildenafil for this reason.

What about this from Alldaychemist?

I have started 4mg Galantamine (from India) added to my morning stack which contains 500mg Metformin.

I have multiple sclerosis (in long term remission) and have been doing rehabilitative physiotherapy for muscle atrophy after a previous demyelinating relapse (that remyelinated but the muscle atrophied in the interim).

My strength has gone ballistic. My balance and gait is phenomenally improved. This drug is going to be a game changer for muscle atrophy and age attributed sarcopenia. Also @John_Hemming you might want to explore the amazing mitogenic and ROS protection through hydrogen peroxide effects of Galantamine.

Great to hear. I’m going to try it on my father now, given your good results!

P.S. I also add 20mg of Calais due to the 70% reduction in vascular dementia risk.

Then, also, other synergies as part of my experimental stack is 15 grams of Chlorella (split into two 7.5 grams AM PM, from tablets as I can’t abide the taste) with

@Walter_Brown Do you think the great results are the Galantamine or the Galantamine in addition to other substances? Thanks!

Not sure,I think it is the correct pathway they’re targeting with Galantamine
