Rapamycin for my Cats?

Hi Tina I’m also from Australia - can I find out who is your vet cardiologist?

Here is a cat study rather than a dog study: “Effects of Once-Weekly Oral Rapamycin in a Naturally Occurring Feline Model of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.”

The dosage used was: “intermittent low dose (0.15 mg/kg) and high dose
(0.30 mg/kg) of DR oral rapamycin once weekly. Rapamycin remained safe and well tolerated in cats receiving both doses for eight weeks.”

I am currently dosing my two cats, weighing approximately 4 kg each, with 1mg of rapamycin/week. This is approximately 80% of their high dose of 0.30 mg/kg.

I recently found a Pill Pocket flavor that my cats will eat, so that is how I feed my cats the rapamycin pill.

This dose is mainly one of convenience, as they have no known problems and are relatively young, at 3+ years old.

It’s possible that someone has posted this before, but not recently.

Correct. Sorry I haven’t logged in for a while. Yes he swallows them whole and I get a 1mg and a .5 mg as he weighs 5.5 kg. So I needed one half tablet however now managed to find the right doses and intact are enteric. I had his first scan which was a year after and the heart condition hasn’t progressed. The cardiologist was pleasantly surprised although this was his suggestion. He isn’t on any beta blockers as when he started on this his bloods were off slightly from surgery. So I ll do bloods and check but so far no more occuramces of heart failure since starting rapa

Hi Cindy
Richard Whoolley is the person to see and get a script if in Aus. My cat has been ok since starting this and he is on frusamide and blood thinner. He isn’t on any beta blockers but I am doing a blood test and we will review. So far his heart failure hasn’t progressed and would say due to rapa.

Hi yes correct either emergency vet clinic should be able to do that or Richard Woolley

Hello everyone, our Sphynx (Vlad, 3.5 years) is stage B1/B2 but been stable for almost 2 years now, screenings every 6 months, no significant progression. Great, but also makes me anxious to start rapamycin asap. Our cardiologist said better wait for the FDA-approved Felycin and not venture with the custom-made pills/liquid.

Been hysterically waiting for Felycin, but we live in Europe (Greece). Any tips on how to secure it as soon as it is released in the US?

Thank you

Felycin is being developed/marketed by an Irish company. I would imagine that they would know how to obtain it ASAP in Europe. It is in their commercial interest to market it as widely as possible. Perhaps you could contact them and ask about availability timeframes for Europe/Greece.

Thanks! Since the company was acquired by PBI-Gordon (US) and the HALT study is in the US, I thought the whole product was still very US-focused. But I will contact Triumvet again, I’m just expecting a generic response… Thank you anyway

I’m not caught up so sorry if this is not applicable to you, but you don’t need custom pills etc…

My cats, and many pets, are getting one of my rapa pills each week. Costs less than $1 per week.

I contacted them too and got a generic response. What I do for my cat but I don’t know if that’s similar to triumvet is coat the rapamycin pills myself. I split them in half, put them in a capsule and use a special enteric coat on it, I add a bit of filler inside like vitamin powder to prevent as much air as possible in it

Thank you both. I alternate between prudently waiting for Felycin and just taking the matter in my own hands like many of you brave people on here. I know in the end it’s one active ingredient and a vessel resistant to stomach acidity, but I still don’t feel confident enough to DIY it. If by August Felycin is not released and available, I might change my mind.
