Rapamycin and Acarbose - starting early in life vs late in life - data from mice

People often ask if it is better to start Rapamycin and anti aging drugs early in life or wait until being old to “not break young, healthy organism” - here is data from NIA ITP from mice

  • First test was started at 9 months of age (mice started at 37.6% of their lifespan) and second was at 16 months old (66.8% of their lifespan)
  • Difference between median lifespan extension was 37% vs 14% (2.6x higher)
  • We don’t know how it will work in humans, but data in mice shows that: the earlier start, the more benefits
  • Mice that would die early have more benefits for starting early, long-lived mice still get most of the benefits when starting late
