Due to a failed root canal I had a tooth extraction 3 weeks ago and stopped my weekly 5mg Rapa the week before the surgery.
All is going well and the wound is healing fine. The plan is to have an implant surgery in 3 to 4 months and would much appreciate if anyone has knowledge on when to start Rapa again.
Thanks in advance
TAKING RAPA SINCE 3,5Y AGO ( 6-8 mg one time a week), I MAKE IMPLANT SURGERY 8MONTHS AGO. WITHDOUT STOP RAPA I AND MY MD NOTED SLOW BONE INTEGRATION. IT WAS EVEN CONSIDERED REPLACING THE IMPLANT. FOR NOW I GUESS 95% BONE INTEGRATION IS COMPLETED. I WAS MAKE IT AGAIN WOULD CONSIDER STOP RAPA UNTIL COMPLETE BONE INTEGRATION.
Better be safe than sorry, rapa benefits have uncertainty and there’s marginal downside from skipping a few months etc.
Implants are considered to be adequately integrated to the bone after 4 months. I wouldn’t recommend anything to impede or slow bone growth until then. Preferably wait 6 months before starting Rapa again. But, I would say, definitely discontinue 2-4 weeks before implant surgery.
Thanks for all the great advice, much appreciated. I will stop Rapa for now and wait until I have healed after my surgery.
