This is the first I’ve heard of them, but his description has gotten me interested. Snake oil or the real deal?
Ok, I’ll get up and take my nattokinase and serrapeptase.
I usually take these a few times a week upon awaking on an empty stomach, but I recall some evidence that taking them on an empty stomach at night may have better impact on brain health and dementia prevention. That would have been my strong choice but it seemed to disturb my sleep.
It sounds like many of these products also combined them with digestive enzymes, but I am not sure what difference it makes.
Hey Chris,
Good find! I swapped my low level statin to Nattokinase about 18 months ago. Rosuvastatin was hard on me, even at low doses. Atorvastatin was better but perhaps that was because of an even lower dose. My lipid bloodworks are all good now, and I’m just using the Natto.
Here’s ChatGPT on the specific benefits of Nattokinase: an enzyme derived from fermented soybeans (natto), offers several potential health benefits, primarily related to cardiovascular health. It can help improve blood flow, reduce blood clots, and may lower blood pressure. Additionally, nattokinase is believed to have neuroprotective effects and may support digestive health.
Potential Benefits of Nattokinase:
-
Cardiovascular Health:
- Blood Clot Dissolution: Nattokinase is known for its fibrinolytic properties, meaning it can break down blood clots, potentially reducing the risk of heart attacks, strokes, and other cardiovascular events.
- Improved Blood Flow: By dissolving clots and preventing them from forming, nattokinase can improve blood flow throughout the body, supporting overall cardiovascular health.
- Reduced Blood Pressure: Some studies suggest that nattokinase may help lower blood pressure, reducing the strain on the heart.
-
Neuroprotection:
- Brain Health: Nattokinase has been shown to have neuroprotective effects, potentially reducing inflammation in the brain and improving cognitive function.
- Alzheimer’s Prevention: Some research suggests that nattokinase may help prevent the development of Alzheimer’s disease.
-
Other Potential Benefits:
- Digestive Health: As a component of natto, a fermented food, nattokinase may contribute to a healthy digestive system and aid in digestive disorders, especially those caused by antibiotic use.
-
Bone Health: Habitual consumption of natto has been linked to improved bone health in elderly men, potentially due to its vitamin K content.
Important Considerations:
- Safety: Nattokinase is generally considered safe for most individuals, but it may increase the risk of bleeding, especially in people with bleeding disorders or those taking anticoagulants.
I wasn’t familiar with serrapeptase, which appears to be the main ingredient of the supplement suppliers recommended in the video.
Potential benefits of Serrapeptase, a proteolytic enzyme originally derived from the digestive tract of silkworms. It’s known for its ability to break down proteins into smaller peptides and amino acids. Here are the key benefits attributed to serrapeptase:
The key benefit of serrapeptase seems to be to decrease inflammation.
-
Anti-Inflammatory Effects:
- Reduces Swelling: Serrapeptase is often used to decrease inflammation, especially in conditions like arthritis, sinusitis, and post-surgical swelling.
- Pain Relief: By breaking down inflammatory proteins, it may help alleviate pain and discomfort.
