Anyone taking a PCSK9i (mine is Repatha) experiencing blurred vision?
I started on Repatha in May 2023. It significantly lowered lipids including Lp(a). But this spring, I found that my H1AC had gone higher, from about 5.6 to 5.8. Also, fasting insulin was extremely low. I was anxious about the Repatha impacting the pancreas as research has shown that a deficiency of PCSK9 can reduce insulin production. I decided to take a break from the Repatha.
Along the way, since late fall, I have been experiencing blurry vision, enough that I am becoming concerned. By accident I stumbled on some research that showed that blurry vision can be a side effect of Repatha.
I hope it goes away – I have now been off the Repatha for about two months and not seeing any improvement. Waiting to get in to see my opthalmologist.
I was so happy to have been able to get on Repatha and had even been considering restarting it with some additional blood glucose regulator. But not any more. Was totally unaware of this potential side effect until just recently.
Thank you for sharing. I’m pushed by my cardiologist to start Repatha, but all data I collected so far shows that it may be the wrong choice. Will continue rosuvastatin, ezetimibe and a-cyclodextrin fiber. My ApoB already dropped from 109 to 76 showing that the meds work.
Hi! What data did you find that makes you not want to use Repatha? I personally have been on it, I had a 25 to 50% increase in my liver enzymes ALT and AST, I’m taking a break and they have gone back down, however, I was using one other supplement that could effect it, EGCG from green tea, Green tea has shown some liver stress in different studies, I stopped all at once. Will add back in Repatha first.
Blood tests have a wider test result range then we’d like. Even samples from the same draw sent in at the same time can come back with percent differences!! ;( 5.4 to 5.8 is almost within testing precision. IE precision vs accuracy.
Discussion on the keto groups have theorized that low carb/anti aging protocols causes the red blood cells to live longer. Thus the A1C 3 mo ave can go up. IE nothing is perfect and everything has associated variables. Your 5.8 may actually be equivelent to 5.2 or lower if red blood cell age where constant… Just tossing out wild comments.
Haven’t noticed any side effects. I take half teaspoon with my morning smoothie. I posted earlier translation of instructions in Japanese. Search under cyclodextrin. In Japan, they even bake with this fiber and add to different meals or drinks.
