Paxlovid with Medicare

I was recently traveling and got COVID the day I returned. I went to CVS (Longs here in Hawaii) to pick up a Paxlovid prescription and was shocked that it is not covered by Medicare, and the list price was over $750.

I asked the pharmacist to see what he could do, and after maybe 15 or 20 minutes on the computer, he found a 100% manufacturer rebate. Total price $0.

Hopefully, you will not get COVID, but if you do

  1. My N of 1 experience is that Paxlovid is amazing, all symptoms gone after 2 doses
  2. Ask for the manufacturer’s rebate!

It’s free to anyone on Medicare, paid by the US government. I don’t know why it isn’t part of Medicare. I guess to make unaware people pay.
