But I’ve always wondered: mother-to-offspring transmission seems to play a bigger role in exceptional longevity. If a father dies young but the mother is a centenarian, is the child more likely to live a long life, or have a shorter lifespan?

I actually just came across a paper that answered this exact question! Individuals with maternal ties to long-lived people tend to live longer—meaning your lifespan is much more strongly correlated with your mother’s lifespan than your father’s.
