It looks like the median lifespan for the control group is around 725 days. The treated mice live about as long as the typical control mice in other experiments.
It seems this may be relevant The Impact of Short-lived controls on the Interpretation of Lifespan Experiments and Progress in Geroscience
Thus, we propose the “900-day rule” for mouse lifespan experiments, which is easy to remember and sufficiently accurate to be useful to editors, reviewers, scientists and lay readers alike. Most healthy inbred or hybrid strains should have a median lifespan of close to 900 days (± 50 days).
Novos has 21 ingredients and I’m taking 13 of them, so 13/21 (18%)= 11. So I should live 11% longer.
I like that companies try to push things forward, and try to make a buck at the same time. I am all for it. But if you take this illustration and put it next to a similar test with high dose Taurine that is super cheap. The whole thing gets a bit funny.
No. Novos Core has the following 12 ingredients:
Calcium Alpha-Ketoglutarate
Fisetin
Magnesium
Glycine
Glucosamine Sulfate
Pterostilbene
Hyaluronic Acid
Rhodiola Rosea
L-Theanine
Microdosed Lithium
Vitamin C
Malate
Ginger
Yes, the above list has 13 items. But that’s how they list it, showing how amateur Novos are: https://novoslabs.com/product/novos-core
If they include Magnesium Malate then that is a single ingredient with potentially two active components.
Malate is interesting because it exchanges for citrate from the mitochondria. I have not studied its absorption through the cell membrane.
Another way of looking at this
Krebs Metabolites:
(Calcium) Alpha-Ketoglutarate
Malate
HDAC inhibitors
Pterostilbene
Fisetin
Ginger (Gingerol)
TCM Yanq Qi AMPK Activators
Rhodiola Rosea
Other ATP enhancer
Glucosamine Sulfate
Minerals:
Magnesium
Microdosed Lithium
Amino Acids
Glycine
L-Theanine
Useful skin nutrient
Hyaluronic Acid
Vitamin
Vitamin C
Its an interesting combination. Somewhat incoherent and limited, but a good start. I have been wondering about malate for some time.
The test, however, as @RapAdmin says has unhealthy mice with a short lifespan as controls. Furthermore they need to wait to see what the outcome for the other mice is first.
I would say probably useful marketing, but not much use as science.
I would not take vitamin C every day as it undermines endogenous anti-oxidants. I take it twice a week in Solgar’s VM 2000.
In terms of AMPK/ATP enhancement I would cycle it.
Otherwise there are complex dosing questions for some of these.
I went to their site and got Trehalose, apple cider vinegar, nattokinase, lutein, zeaxanthan and I think a few more… Rutin and inulin. Core must mean the first 13, then vital the next 5…I stand corrected thanks.
To make it 21 you add NMN, which they call Novos Boost.
Matt kamberlain is on their advisory board and he said in a podcast once he takes novos because they gave if to him for free.
My issue with them is they haven’t changed their formula since the product came out 4-5 years ago. I think it needs some updates. I was once using a packet of it daily and did it for about two years but eventually stopped. It’s expensive but it includes a lot so I’m not surprised.
Probably very underrated, I like taking malic acid for the feeling of recovery I get almost instantly: less tired, more refreshed…
Sometimes I wonder if the simplest ingredient could be the one that boosts the good results.
