Be sure to make time for the most important part of your weekly workout!
Women who have sex less than once a week may be more likely to die early than those who engage in more regular intercourse, according to the results of a new study. While this same impact was not observed in men, the researchers did note that more frequent sex reduces the chances of an early grave in both men and women with depression.
“Sexual activity is important for overall cardiovascular health possibly due to reduction of heart rate variability and blood flow increase,” write the authors. “Using findings from our study, we can infer that sexual activity, broadly defined, may ameliorate loss of function that can occur with age and the progression of disease,” they add.
To reach these conclusions, the researchers analyzed data from 14,542 individuals in the US, recorded as part of a national health survey conducted between 2005 and 2010. In total, 2,267 provided details of their sex lives, with 94.4 percent of those people claiming to get busy at least once a month, while 38.4 percent said they did so more than once a week.
Ummm. Healthy user bias? Perhaps unhealthy people with infirmity do not feel like getting it on? What explains the result in men though? A man can have a broken hip and lung cancer and still wants some nookie?
Observational studies. Ughh
“While eunuchs have the potential to live longer, many engage in clandestine meddling in the affairs of powerful people, which results in a considerably shortened lifespan.”
In mammals, females generally live longer than males. Nevertheless, the mechanisms underpinning sex-dependent longevity are currently unclear. Epigenetic clocks are powerful biological biomarkers capable of precisely estimating chronological age and identifying novel factors influencing the aging rate using only DNA methylation data. In this study, we developed the first epigenetic clock for domesticated sheep (Ovis aries), which can predict chronological age with a median absolute error of 5.1 months. We have discovered that castrated male sheep have a decelerated aging rate compared to intact males, mediated at least in part by the removal of androgens. Furthermore, we identified several androgen-sensitive CpG dinucleotides that become progressively hypomethylated with age in intact males, but remain stable in castrated males and females. Comparable sex-specific methylation differences in MKLN1 also exist in bat skin and a range of mouse tissues that have high androgen receptor expression, indicating that it may drive androgen-dependent hypomethylation in divergent mammalian species. In characterizing these sites, we identify biologically plausible mechanisms explaining how androgens drive male-accelerated aging.
This makes me wonder if Finasteride should be considered for men on TRT. Finasteride reduces dihydrotestosterone, which is highly androgenic, while leaving the anabolic and cardio protective effect of testosterone in place. This might have a similar longevity benefit as castration while keeping all the parts intact.
There has been some discussions on finasteride and dutasteride, it could be promising. You have 17-Alpha-Estradiol and Estriol both increasing male mice lifespan IIRC.
Could it be that nuns probably have a stronger sense of purpose and meaning than the average person? As we know, these are vital for both emotional well-being and healthy longevity.
Maybe the nuns are having a lot of sex in those cloisters? That’s one way you could square that data. We know the RCC have had a big problem of sex between priests and nuns in Africa.
Yes, there are the cases of abuse and involuntary, but also many voluntary, particularly same sex in various European countries. In some circles it is well known that certain cloisters are notorious dens of sexual activity. Much more than amount of sex in standard lay marriages.
But it’s just a hypothesis. I don’t think there are any reliable statistics on prevalence.
It is very surprising, until one understands that cloisters have always been the not so secret way out for homosexuals. Nothing is as it is made to appear.
