“Most generic drugs are safe, but a troubling minority are not. Testing finished drugs, signing “green” manufacturers to long-term contracts, and sharing quality scores with the public would help realign market forces to improve safety. The United States already tests a wide range of consumer products. We should also test our generic drugs.”
Contaminated drugs from India remain a major problem, but meds that are under-dosed or that have no active ingredient is an even greater problem. I can tell from my own purchase history that some brands, or at least some batches, have been utterly useless. But India is not alone. Manufacturers in both China and the U.S. have been implicated.
