Mitral Regurgitation

Unfortunately, my wife was diagnosed with a very early stage of Mitral Regurgitation for her heart. She is worried that the Rapamycin she is taking may make this condition better or worse? Or is there anything she can do to make it better? I am not a doctor, so I have no clue, but I thought I would put this out there in case anyone knows the answer. Thanks in advance for any and all help.

My girlfriend also has mitral valve regurgitation. I haven’t seen any studies on rapamycin related to that condition but my guess is that it is more likely to help than harm. My reasoning is that mitral valve regurgitation can put extra pressure on the chambers of the heart, that need to work harder than otherwise. This in turn can lead to stiffening and hypertrophy of the cardiac muscles. mTOR inhibition with rapamycin might help prevent that. I doubt it would do anything to the regurgitation per se though. Of course optimally your wife will have an ultrasound before and after taking rapamycin for a while to see if it influences the condition.
