Hi, I’ve been taking metformin SR 500mgs-1g, in the morning, for years. This has been off my own bat (no doctor involvement) to reduce high blood sugar spikes despite a low carb diet - and for anti-aging.
However 2 weeks ago I started the carnivore diet, and apart from feeling better than I have in years and not wanting to stop, I notice that my blood sugar is dropping too low every night for an hour or so around 3-6am. I reduced metformin to 500mgs, but no improvement. Should I not be taking metformin on a zero carb diet? or could it be something else causing the drops? Thanks.

Not a doc, but 99% sure, there is no place for metformin when on a strict carnivore diet (when in ketosis)

No place for Metformin in a non-diabetic.

Get a sugar monitor patch and monitor your blood sugar. If your blood sugar does not drop below 3.8, you can continue the same… any less get off the metformin. Personally zero carb diet do not need metformin.
