My TLDR; A good diet and mental wellbeing is the common factor, weather expressed as low-stress or good family/community relationships.
But wouldn’t it be great if we could identify another factor for longevity… Like Rapamycin.
It always interests me to see how much things low social connection, a positive outlook, and being able to live relatively stress-free support longevity.
Whether we want to accept the truth or not it’s called genes. My dad lived into his ninety’s by eating what ever he wanted when he wanted. He also never exercised a day in his life. I know that many will say well if he did maybe he would have lived even longer right? He didn’t take vitamins either. His grandfather also lived into his ninety’s. I am convinced our genes predetermine our life spans. Enjoy life and stop worrying about trying to beat the clock for it’s already been set.
IMHO, everyone should be able to make it to their mid-90s regardless of genes. This is because the wealthy and ultra-rich are able to do this. Just look at the presidents of the USA, each president after and including Gerald Ford that has died in their 90s, and the age of death is trending higher with time. Jimmy Carter died at 100. This is due to the fact they have access to excellent medical care. If you die before your mid-90s, it’s due to a lack of resources or care. 20% of billionaires are over the age of 80 compared to 3.8% of the general population.
Genetics and interventions will push you beyond 95. I expect Rapamycin users to be able to hit 102 and beyond. We’ll see in another 18 years, right @desertshores ? You’re our lab mouse.
