To be honest personally I have no idea what the NSF is. But it and the $9.9B yearly budget sound good.

It’s one of US government’s most important funders of science and technology outside the NIH and Defense/War Department.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) has been the “venture capital” firm for some of the most world-changing ideas since it was established in 1950. While they don’t usually build the final products themselves, their funding for “basic research” often provides the “Aha!” moment that leads to the gadgets in your pocket and the medicine in your cabinet.
