Longevity Fixation Syndrome

The troubling rise of longevity fixation syndrome: ‘I was crushed by the pressure I put on myself’

The guy needs counseling. If it wasn’t longevity fixation, it would have been something else.
I considered chasing longevity to be a hobby and an adventure. It causes me no problems other than a slight dent in my wallet.

Exactly… more fun than stress. Always enjoy friendships and learning on this site… thanks @RapAdmin.

The way I drive, I will probably die in a car accident before my body gives out. Truth.

Yes, I was struck by how generally low functioning these people were. Why “fear of death” more than “love of life”? And complete lack of any ability to keep things in perspective - why would you think that a rare “sin” of “wrong” food or any other health related behaviour would obviate the 95% of time you’re on point? Have they not heard of the 80/20 rule? Don’t they understand QOL calculations? Plus, really, just massive ignorance - silly tests and treatments with little to no relevance to health. Seems to me these people were never suited to this pursuit in the first place. No matter the activity, you will always find those who will fail at it. A long time ago, I worked at a startup. At one point I was put in charge of training new employees - it was a pretty high demand and stress job, so they wanted to train people. I did it for a few months and reached a conclusion, that some people benefit from training and some people are not trainable - and it has nothing to do necessarily with “intelligence”. It’s something about psychological effectiveness - you either have it or not. So from the get-go I realized, well, we’re going to lose 20% of these people regardless of how extensively they’re trained. It’s just not in them. This is what I thought when I read this article - some people for whatever reason, just are not suited to a given endeavor, not “stupid” just “don’t have that particular capacity”. Such is life.
