Research shows that there is a correlation between women with the lowest (and highest) amounts of insulin, and Alzheimers. It does not seem clear whether the low insulin was just naturally occurring or an outcome of insulin resistance. Also, it seems that intranasal insulin together with empagliflozen seemed to work even better – because it improved brain uptake and/or use of glucose.
I am searching for more insight on this. One paper said that intranasal insulin is in stage 3 trials for AD. Research on intranasal insulin and neurodegenerative decline goes back to the early 2000’s but there does not seem to be much traction.
I would so appreciate comments, pointers, and especially – where can I get intranasal insulin?
Alzheimers has been a concern for a while as I have family history, low BMI, low insulin (but not insulin resistant). My husband and I were looking at the MoCA test and we discovered that neither of us can remember the five words! although we are fine in the other areas. Not an academic concern any more . . .
