Interoception/viscerality: How do you measure it and its decline with age?

Interoception

Many autistic people/nerds have deficient interoception (ability to read their body’s signals/what their body is trying to tell them). That’s what some people say as “groundedness”.
But deficits in interoception are also a big reason why older people decline (and get into situations where they don’t self-correct initial damage).

After a marathon of journal revisions, I finally carved out a few days to do what I love most — build things.

The result: a fully automated Python pipeline for mapping heart-brain coupling at the individual level. From raw pulse waveforms → quality control → beat-by-beat variability → frequency-specific HRV → nuisance confounds → voxelwise brain maps, all in one shot.

It’s currently crunching through ~530 participants while I get back to other work. Can’t wait to see what the group maps look like!
