Elevating a single inflammatory cytokine (IL-6) lifelong is sufficient to, in some ways, prematurely age mice
Crp is a good proxy, but I think il-10 is the issue.
I’ve gotten IL-6 measured via Quest Diagnostics
(a bit more expensive than other standard markers, so I don’t do it that often)
If you live in the US, Life Extension Foundation (LEF) offers it through Labcorp for $75.
Test: Interleukin-6, Serum
Isn’t CRP proxy for IL-6 and good enough alternative?
Why do you test IL-6? What information do you get that CPR won’t provide, when we are talking general health?
John H can perhaps comment on differences.
One that I’ll continue to use it is that my hs-CRP is always under the lowest detectable level, while the IL-6 is not - so I hope to be able to see trends in IL-6 that I can’t see (the Quest or Labcorp in the US)
Edit: actually, just went back to the test I’m below the measurement threshold of the quest IL-6 test too, so it’s sensitivity is not helpful in the way I thought.
I would need to read up more to say anything useful. I have not tried to get il6 as crp seems a good proxy and i get it in the standard panel.
CRP and hs-CRP are useful for picking up systemic inflammation, but IL-6 can sometimes catch earlier or more localized immune activation that CRP might miss.
If helpful to anyone here — through The Longevity Vault and our nationwide lab partners (via Rupa Health), you can now order IL-6 and high-sensitivity IL-6 directly here, no doctor’s appointment needed, results sent straight to your inbox.
You can also get CRP, hs-CRP, CBC, ESR, Homocysteine, and other inflammation baseline markers if you want a broader panel. Blood draw locations available nationwide also.
