This has to be the top concern for most people… see our discussion on how to lower risk: Cardiovascular Health
The American Heart Association (AHA) report, published Monday in the journal Circulation, found that 941,652 Americans died from cardiovascular disease in 2022, the most recent year for which data is available. That’s an increase of more than 10,000 from the just over 931,500 reported to have died from cardiovascular disease in 2021.
There is more than one kind of heart disease. What is called heart failure seems to be something that is basically the heart muscle losing it’s ability to pump well.
Someone posted a video here a while ago in which someone was saying that the heart loses structural integrity (my paraphrase) with aging & so can’t pump as well.
It’s a little challenging for me to determine from the paper just what is included as “heart disease”. It list the #1 cause of death as ischemic heart disease. This may or may not include some people with other heart conditions such as heart failure or myocarditis or valvular disease, etc.
