Fish Oil Supplements

What brand of fish oil do you take? I’ve only used those from Life Extension or Xymogen.

I trust Nordic Naturals, Carlson, Pureencapsulation. But even less expensive brands like Kirkland and GNC are good. Currently, the brand I take is determined by wanting a lower dose.

I use the bottled oil from NOW brand, about 2 to 4 teaspoons a day, with fibrous food. I’d been using it a couple of months when I got an Omega Index blood test. It was very high at 12.4. The commentary on the lab report indicated this was good for a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease, which many of my ancestors died from. My levels rival that of Norwegians:). I believe I’ve read of potential problems with high doses with the heart, perhaps atrial fibrillation? Oh and too much all at once can cause some diaherra, I’d like to have an honest conversation with my physician about it, but when I brought up a few simple supplements (higher doses of Vit C&D) he was clearly perturbed, so its off the table. Fish Oil is fairly mainstream, but 4tsp might well be considered excessive and reckless. (And don’t even think about bringing up rapa to my doc)

I definitely lowered my dose and I am considering stopping supplementation all together. It depends on if one has any condition that would potentially benefit from supplementation or a vegan. If one is healthy, active, eats lots of omega 3 from plants (seeds and nuts) and seafood already then I am not sure it’s really necessary.
