Customs Might Get Tighter Under Trump

They go after large orders way more than small ones .

In the UK the rules are personal use. A really big order is thought to be potentially commercial. I think 3 months supply is considered personal. (personal includes the family)

I’m just going to use a courier from now on. Not worth risking it.

Commercial couriers like FedEx and DHL are also subject to customs clearance, are you talking about a different type of courier?

I use a non-commercial courier through private channels. I know an Indian lady who.arranges meds to be brought over in her friends’ luggage which is perfectly legal here in Hong Kong.

Her nickname is “mule”

of course it seems like everything is legal in HK (except the free press).

Yes. There is no free press or freedom of assembly in Hong Kong after 2019. There’s also limited freedom of speech regarding the government. You are free to say whatever you want, but just not too loudly.

I just had an order from India seized as well. It wasn’t a huge order - roughly 3 months’ supply for 4-5 different meds and only about $200, but Jardiance was on the list. This is the second time it’s happened in the last 18 months, so I fear that I am now on a “short list” to get flagged and inspected by Customs. Am I overreacting?

Seizure rates ticked up starting last summer, which is why some vendors now ship to another country first. I provided some more expensive but less seizure-prone options recently:

I have had two shipments (from an Indian pharma) seized since Trump came into office. I have no idea if this is coincidence, but, am looking for ideas on how to combat the seizures? Have been using this guy for a few years and overall very few seizure issues in the past.

I’ve had 2 of last 3 shipments seized after a few years of perhaps 1 in 8.

Thx for replying - I suspect that Customs will tighten up a bit on foreign Pharma. Will try a different vendor and shipping to a different US address to see if that helps. I’ll also check out AgentSmith’s recos

My gut feeling is that it’s more likely that customs is getting less likely to seize since trump got in office. Given all the random DOGE government cuts and layoffs and such all across the government, I would think broadly that enforcement is down. Of course I don’t know the specifics on the impacts on the specific groups that are doing the package / enforcement, so I may be off on this.

Hmm. My gut feeling is that the seizures may not diminish, but become more random and incomprehensible. The competence will drop. Sort of like what happened to my package with Jagdish, where it was sent back because of “incomplete address”, while the address was in fact complete. I imagine that it was some kind of automated reader glitch that somehow misread the address, but that with full staffing, such packages are then given a second look by a human who can spot that this was a glitch. But with cuts, there are not enough people, so they just roll with whatever the automatic system determines. Sort of like those companies that are strapped for personnel, and have these automatic voicemail response trees without a human operator option, so it sucks. You just get much worse service and performance. It’s part of the enshitification process, where things just deteriorate - budget gets worse, economy declines, as a result budget gets worse yet and so on in a vicious cycle. Like it’s said, empires don’t die overnight, they first decline and deteriorate. Right now it seems we’re in the “aging empire” state, like in any organism, the functionality declines, mild cognitive impairment, eventually dementia and so on. :man_shrugging:

It’s the contrary right now, when it comes to many pharmacy products. Shipments are taking more and more time to make it past customs, and rehips are happening more often. That might change in the future, but right now it’s a mess.

Additionally, I’ve already seen people getting charged for tariffs on the items, mainly DHL, and I suppose others will follow suit . 100$ charge for stated value of 50…

My India shipments still moving through customs at good speed - ‘Same as it ever was’.

And, off Walmart, I (unknowingly) bought some $5 item from China, passed through without a thought -

Same I have made a few similar orders recently and same as always. No changes.

Just as I expected.
