Crsociety.org has been down for a few months

Resurrection confirmed, not a hallucination (unless a massive one).

It’s still not loading for me. Can you point me to the link you are using?

might be a way to scrape

I’ve used winhttrack before to scrape forums but I’m rusty on it (still will use it at some point) but I have too much going on to properly scrape near-term

If someone is willing to put in the effort to scrape crsociety (it’s not much effort, really), I can pay you. It’ll have to be a recurring effort, though not too much of one b/c crsociety doesn’t get updated too often.

it’s a very useful counterpart forum to rapamycin.news b/c it’s easier to organize and there’s less noise (and rapamycin.news runs a high risk of having too many people)

the website doesn’t load up… again…

https://archive.ph/https://www.crsociety.org/*
I got archivebot to WARC it and I did get httrack on it, but the httrack couldn’t download the images and attached files (and some 6-page threads will have missing pages)
https://wiki.archiveteam.org/index.php/ArchiveBot

WARC file: Domain www.crsociety.org - ArchiveBot Viewer
[if someone could download this and confirm it has archived images and attachments, that would give me a lot of peace of mind]. I know the archivebot operation went after external links and downloaded images, but attachments are hard…

I did get the httrack to go archive its private forums (which don’t contain any sensitive content)

Not sure if archivebot will get it scraped to archive.org. It’s also not 100% clear if archivebot made it past the captchas.

I’m sad that almost no one cares as much as I did (CR people just have no “life” in them - they ALL lost their zest for life, kind of similar to quora except that at least adam d’angelo does care about forever even if quora is at low maintenance), but at least it was a miracle that it did go back up for 1.5 months, giving me the opportunity to finally archive it. The second time it went down, and no one cried again…

What’s more, Google took down its cache in the meantime, so you can’t rescue links like this anytime from cache in the future.

Very sad. There were a lot of resources accumulated over many years, tons of valuable discussions and insight, lived experiences and unique community. A real loss to the life extension world. RIP.

Which does raise a question for @RapAdmin as to what archiving of rapamycin.news there is. It would be relatively easy to set up an automated archiving system of some form.

The system is backed up every day. I don’t think there is too much to worry about unless the backups get corrupted or something. I’ll check the system and make sure we’re covered.

Sadly, however, on a forum dedicated to longevity there is a question as to what happens if the forum admin is run over by a bus.

Ah - we have coverage for that situation also… @rberger does have full access to the software and root access to the server if I ever get taken out by the proverbial bus

Just make sure you both don’t walk in front of the same bus.

The above reminds me of the redesigning of a road in front of the government office where I work. The redesign implied a reserved bus lane where the buses go full speed. Distraction may be fatal, especially so when the configuration of the street has changed; plus now there are four lanes with directions different from the previous two lanes. I taught myself to be terrorized by such a situation and to concentrate before crossing the road like if I had to figure out a difficult problem.
The proverbial bus, which can be extrapolated to all vehicles, is something which we should and can avoid at all costs.

On that note, a month or two ago, the system was down and I had a panic attack when I couldn’t access the site! You all are my new favorite online hobby and POOF, just like that, you all were gone

We will do our best to avoid that situation
